Thought this was pretty funny. Was talking with this scout at work here. Asked him about Keith Law, this is what he has to say (directly from our IM conv):

never met him, only saw him at a couple games/tournaments but i've heard so many stories about him. he has about as much respect in the scouting world as brian mcnamee has for clemens

i don't know one scout or front office member that has ever said a good thing about him, at least while i've been present...they all think he's a total joke

it's funny how far self-promoting will get you in any walk of life

Sure, but that's just one scout. He did work for the Blue Jays and, from what I understand, he could have had a job with the Astros last year.

Keith Law's a joke. Never liked him, never will. He worked for the Jays, and was fired. Never got another job. I think that says a lot. If he works for the Astros, Luhnow's not calling the shots. Jerry Reinsdorf let Hawk talk him into naming him GM and he fired LaRussa. Media types are in the media for a reason

Luhnow is clearly calling the shots in Houston. If the owner were calling the shots, they'd have drafted Appel with the top pick.

Plus, Houston hired Goldstein away from Baseball Prospectus. Like them or hate them, the big gun prospect voices on the internet do at least have the respect of some in the industry
