Baseball + gambling + money = fun

This is a fun and completely easy and cheap way to have an extra reason to pay attention to baseball this season. It's a now-nationwide pool called The Home Run Pool. Very catchy, I know.

Anyway, guys in Illinois started this thing like 25-30 years ago among friends and it's just continued to grow as people have branched out across the country. I think there were something like 2,000 entries last year.

An entry list is $5 a piece and you can do as many as you want.
Entries can be found at www.thehomerunpool.com and you have to turn in the main sheet and any addiitonal sheets. Each list is $5. You have to mail them in. (for the kids, this is mail, not email)

On the main sheet you'll find the lists. You pick one player from each list, plus three "wildcards" -- players not on any of the four lists.
Whoever has the most home run totals for their seven players wins. Top 20 people get paid and I think the winner usually comes in around $1,500-$2,000, depending on entries.

The website is updated almost daily with entries and certainly by every two days. There's a search box so you can find your name.

It's pretty fun. Anyway, entries are due April 8 and all the info is on the sign up sheet of where to ship them. It seems easy enough, but last year I was about 7 homers away from a few hundred dollars. It's tough to get the right combination. But it's fun to watch.

Anyway, just passing along. If anyone signs up, let me know.

Pat

We should all do it next year (only $5) and see how the IBC does. Those other people wouldn't really know what hit them.

Where were you knuckleheads when I posted this? Told you it was fun and now Jake is taking home $1k (minus referral fee money to me. I'm going light-- 20 percent max).
And, yes JB, I am represented here since neither of you would have known about it without knowing me, you ungrateful bastard.

It's hard...for perspective I did 10 entries and the closest to my winning entry finished 55 homeruns behind. It's a lot of luck and hoping nobody gets injured..Bautista fucked a lot of people over.
