Carlos Gonzalez eligibility

Carlos Gonzalez (wrist) has been shut down for the rest of the season.
Not a big surprise, as Gonzalez hasn't played since aggravating his right wrist on September 15. He will wear a brace for three to four weeks following the season, but should be good to go for 2012.
the injury occurred on Sept. 15, immediately afterward:
Carlos Gonzalez re-injured his right wrist crashing into the right-field wall in the sixth inning of Thursday's loss to the Giants, and will likely miss "at least a few games."
This is a tough one to me. That he's in a brace for 3-4 weeks is concerning, and it's an injury that he didn't play through before in the season (unlike Ethier, who played through pain all year). I'm not totally sure what to make of him, I'd lean towards out just because it's an injury that he was out for with before, coupled with the brace.

Totally up to you guys though, and can easily see either side of it.

Seems to me like he should be out, especially because of the brace.

This is the kind of call I hate to make. We just don't have great information. While the burden of proof should generally be on why the player should be out, I can't really see a reason to think that Gonzalez would be playing right now if the Diamondbacks needed him. Out for the next three days for me. I need to think about the playoffs.

Jag wants us to think this over again. Says that he thinks if the Rockies were in it, he'd be more than willing to play through it, but the fact that they were out of it is why they shut him down.

CarGo said exam today confirmed wrist inflammation. He won't swing bat until nov. 1. "I have to let it heal" he said

SAN FRANCISCO — An exam by the San Francisco 49ers team doctor today confirmed a deep bone bruise and tendon inflammation in Carlos Gonzalez’s injured right wrist.

He was relieved that there’s no break or tear, but remains concerned. He won’t swing a bat until Nov. 1 as a precaution.

“That’s the problem, it’s never healed the way it’s supposed to because I was trying to get back in July when we had a chance to do something special,” said Gonzalez, who’s hitting .295 with 26 home runs and 92 RBIs. “We will see where it is in three weeks. And if it’s not getting better we will look at something else.”

Gonzalez doesn’t believe surgery will be necessary a any point. He didn’t perform baseball activity for six weeks last season because of tendinitis in the same wrist.

“And when I picked up a bat for the first time, there was no problem. And it felt fine in spring training,” said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez has no plans to play winter ball in Venezuela, citing his need to heal his body. He has missed time because of three separate wrist injuries and a stiff back this season. He will live in Venezuela, however, and work out with his winterball team near his home.

Gonzalez won’t repeat his postseason award haul in October, when he won two Players Choice Awards, a Silver Slugger and Gold Glove. He still has a good shot to win his second straight Gold Glove. This season, coaches and managers will select outfielders by position, and Gonzalez was listed as left fielder on the ballot because that’s where he had the most innings at the time of the voting.

“I really hope to get another one,” Gonzalez said.
