With last night's win over the Astros, the Pirates have clinched the NL Central. Looks like the Marlins will be next with a magic number of three in Florida.

Congrats on the division crown JP.

Thanks. Pretty happy to have a three peat in the NL Central, even if I've no pennant to go with it.
Looking forward to seeing which round of the playoffs I get bumped out in this year though.

With Florida's win on Sept. 12, Dan's Marlins have clinched the NL East.
JB's magic number is down to five, so his clinching should be imminent as well.

Updated. Just over a week to go in the season, three spots still up for grabs -- most notably, the AL Central.

JB's Yankees clinched the AL East on Monday night with Boston's loss to Baltimore.
The Yanks also have clinched homefield through the ALCS.
Pittsburgh clinched homefield through the World Series (ha, yeah right) with Monday's win.

Updated. Should go down to the wire in the ALC and NL Wild Card, and Bishop can potentially gain ground this weekend with Boston playing New York.

Maybe...Bishop did just lose two games to my awful team.

Updated.
Congrats to Jake and Nils for clinching their divisions over the weekend. Still have three spots available and only one game separating first and second in all the races.

Hats off to Tullar's Red Sox, as Tuesday's win over Baltimore clinched the Wild Card for Boston.
That puts an end to Bishop's playoff run, which is pretty impressive as well. Pat's team had made the playoffs in 04, 05 before missing out in '06, but then making them in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Also, I should add that the AL Central is still up for grabs, with Jim up just a game on Gudim's Royals. The NL Wild Card is all tied up as we head into Game 162.
Last time we had any type of Game 163 action, it was in 2008 -- also involved Jag. Also had two 163s in 2008 as well, with the NL Wild Card and NL West being decided by them.

Also we had a walkoff grand slam by Rafael Furcal in the Wild Card 163. Sorry I'm winning 45 games next year, I gotta hold on to the past

My temporary 3rd ace Barry Zito pitched a shutout tonight, which since I have a better H2H record than Jim I believe guarantees that I don't have to deal with JB in round 1. You ready for the ALDS Pat?

That's too bad, I was looking forward to sending you home early.

the IBC comes through on 163 when the MLB couldn't. Jag and Ken will head to Great American Ballpark as the defending NL Champs and 2010 NL West champs have to play for the WC.
Congrats to Jim on his first-ever IBC playoff berth.

And the eighth and final spot is now owned by Jag and his Diamondbacks, making a second straight trip to October baseball.
I'll have the database out shortly, and have this thread converted to a poll, as is tradition.

Amazingly, there are three new American League playoff teams this year. Last year, JB of course won the East and went onto with the World Series, Brett P. won the Central with the Tigers, Brennan won the West with the Mariners and Bishop took home the Wild Card with Toronto.
This year, not only are there three new teams, but two of them are making their IBC playoff debuts. Tullar took his Red Sox from a 79 win team in 2010 to 99 in 2011 to win the Wild Card. Jim also improved greatly, winning 84 in 2010 before winning 95 in 2011.
Hamlin is making his third trip to the postseason, and his first since 2008. The other appearance by Jake came in 2007.
Of course, JB is also there. It's his ninth straight playoff appearance, with his only year failing to make them coming in the IBC's inaugural year in 2002. It's also New York's fourth straight AL East title, and seventh overall. JB won the Wild Card in 2003 with the Blue Jays and in 2007.
In the National League, there are two new playoff teams -- but both have been there before. Dan's Marlins return to the playoffs for the third time in fourth years, with division titles coming in 2008 and 2009 before Nick's Phillies took the division last year.
Nils missed the playoffs last year going 77-85, but came back this year to win to win 104 games. It will be Nils' seventh playoff appearance, and his sixth NL West title. Nils' other playoff appearance came when he was the Cubbies in 2002, winning the Wild Card and the pennant before losing to Nick in the World Series.
Jag's Diamondbacks are back in the playoffs for a second consecutive season, and like Dan, for the third time in four years. Jag won the division in 2008 and 2010, before winning the Wild Card in a 163rd game against the 2010 NL Champion Reds.
Lastly, I'll be taking the Pirates back to the playoffs for the third consecutive season. Overall, it'll by my franchises fifth playoff appearance, the others coming in 2003 as the D'Backs, winning the Wild Card and pennant that year, and in 2004 when the Mets won the NL East.
Good luck to everybody, except JB.

The LDS rounds should be over by Monday. JB swept Jim and Nils took out Jag in five, in what probably looks like something that would have been an ESPN instant classic series had it been real life. Oak/Bos and Pit/Fla will both be over by Monday as well.
