KANSAS CITY, MO - The emotional high of the Royals' opening day rout of the the Tigers was quickly erased by a 7-0 shutout at the hands of Roy Oswalt, a former member of the organization when it was in Baltimore.

Oswalt pitched a complete game against his former squad, allowing just four hits, walking one, and striking out 8 batters.

On the flip side, the Royals sent newcomer Joba Chamberlain to the mound, and his debut was less than stellar. In 5 1/3 innings of work, Chamberlain allowed nine hits, six runs (four of them earned), while striking out four and walking one. Starts like this will only add fuel to the fire as far as the discussion about moving Joba to the bullpen is concerned.

No Royals hitter had more than one hit, and only Jason Kubel and Johnny Damon reached second base, both on doubles.

Rookie Jason Castro went 0-3 with two strikeouts after his huge day on Monday.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Matt Wieters (3-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI). Tough not to give this to Oswalt, but Wieters gets the nod after showing up his rookie counterpart with a huge game.
