Billy Wagner told the New York Post Monday that he's planning to retire.
"I don't plan on talking to nobody," Wagner said, when asked where he might pitch next season. The free agent left-hander posted a 1.72 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 26/8 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings this season and it was largely assumed he wanted to find a closing gig this winter. But now the 38-year-old is talking retirement. "Why wouldn't I?," he said. "I've got nothing else to [accomplish]."
that sucks.

Saw that also, but not really sure how he can want to retire. He had Tommy John to come back and pitch for a month just to retire??

He said he's wanted to retire, but his wife keeps telling him to play. Must be a $ thang.

If I'm not mistaken, Bill Wagner is about as country as one can get. He grew up on a farm, no one really near him, and I'm pretty sure the story is that he built arm strength and accuracy by throwing the ball as far as he could straight down a corn field row, running after it, picking it up, and repeating for hours at a time.
He's also the DIII record holder for k's per 9, with something just dumb like 18 or 19 k's per 9.
