DL Policy Tweak

JP and I had a discussion about this a few weeks ago, I thought I would bring it up in public.
We discussed two potential tweaks to the DL policy, I'm going to mention one now regarding violations. In the event that a violation is self-reported, i.e. you notice you didn't farm a guy when you should have and announce the violation before another GM does, then the penalty for the violation would be cut in half. It would still count as a full violation for the sake of any future ones, but the penalty that time would be half. Also, i think there should be a time limit on he self report, like it would have to come by Wednesday of that week or before that player appeared in a second game, whichever came later.

Obviously, this is a change that should occur after the season.
Any thoughts?

Interesting to think about:

missing a 4 days for a RP or hitter = 4 games.

missing 4 days for a SP = 1 game.

I'm not going to mention my stance on the DL policy, but missing a hitter can cause a series sweep...missing a starting pitcher might cost the opposing team one game max.

True, the SP will get into fewer games, but the SP arguably has a bigger effect on the outcome of that game than most hitters will. The absence of even an A-rod or Pujols isn't likely to result in a series sweep.

Sounds reasonable, the whole point of the DL violations is to encourage GMs to stay more on top of DL stuff, this rewards people for doing that. That being said there are ways to be slick about starting pitchers that way. It merits discussion.
