I just don't understand why people choose to live where it snows. I'm wearing a t-shirt today...

'cause you can always put more clothes on to get warm, but when you're hot, they arrest you if you take too many off!

See, that's the thing about baseball. No matter how dark or cold the night in the dead of winter, you know that spring will come again.

It's a sport that's built on hope--it has to be, because otherwise the Chicago Cubs would have gone the way of the St. Louis Browns a long time ago.

Unlike basketball or football or hockey or soccer, there's no clock in baseball. A game can be played in two hour or five; it can be played in five innings due to rain, nine or go as long as twenty-two. A team can be up by six runs in the ninth and still lose the game, and it's not something that only happens once every ten years--it happens, almost without fail, every season.

There's a reason that Dodgers fans could always get away with "wait 'till next year!"--because they understood that next year would come. They never gave up hope, and in 1955, next year came.

It came for the Red Sox in 2004 (obligatory shudder, of course), and it will come for the Cubs.

Even when the temperature dips below 0, when I'm outside wearing four layers and two scarves, when it's so cold that it becomes exhausting just to walk three blocks, the sun can still come out and remind us that baseball will be back again. That the hope inherent in a baseball season will be back again, one more time.

This is baseball's gift to us, and why the issue of who you're a fan of isn't nearly as important as the fact that you are a fan.

Because if you're a baseball fan, you already know that there's nothing in the world more important than hope.

Snowshoeing, ice skating, skiing, x-country skiing, snowball fights, snowmen, snow angels, sledding, catching snowflakes on your tongue, a white Christmas, snowmobiles, snow volleyball, the crunch of the snow under your boots... and there's nothing like the peace and silence of a snow covered morning... or watching snowflakes dance and swirl while you while away the hours with a cup of hot chocolate... or watching football played in the elements like it ought to be.

I had the option of working in Sacramento instead of Boulder... but once you've lived with 4 distinct seasons, it's impossible to give up. Variety is the spice of life my friend.

Eh, if I want to do any of those things Tahoe is a couple of hours away. Also, Sacramento sucks, I would also choose Boulder over Sacramento.

Couple of hours drive v. right outside your front door or a 20 minute drive. Are you gonna drive a couple hours for a snowball fight or to catch snowflakes on your tongue? I doubt it. Warm weather is great, make no mistake, but having 4 distinct seasons is simply spectacular.

JP, I couldn't agree more.. Absolutely disturbing on many levels.

That said, CO weather does rock. Snow is good. We have plenty of warm weather. Record high this week, almost again today. Tonight and tomorrow? Snow.

im convinced i will never see snow again... im talking more than a dusting to 1 inch of snow.

i was quite thrilled. 1st time in 4 years the pond froze and i was able to play hockey all weekend.
