JP, I like you, but the numbers are solidly against you on this one. VMart's minor league career saw him post numbers incredibly similar to what he's accomplished in the MLB (.301/.373/.473 at MLB vs. .319/.391/.488 at MILB) - and that's OPS # doesn't reflect the 5 year upswing he's on.

so the 3 Elite C's had a combined 24 HR to McCann's 23. Also McCann had the top OPS and 57 BB/ 64 SO BB/K Rate. And for what it's worth he stole 5 bases as well and wasn't caught.

congrats, he's clearly a hall of Famer after one season as arguably a top 3 Catcher.

arguably? clearly was the class of C this year. I never claimed for him to be a hall of famer ,but i think if he can manage to put up a bunch of years like this he'll have a really good chance.

He won number 20 today, has a mid 3 ERA and how about the k to BB ratio? washed up? Hardly.

Well I'd argue that my argument was that, going into this year, McCann wasn't a top 5 catcher. After this year, I'm sure you could argue he's at least top 3 - no Mauer, but definitely in the conversation with him.

I'm admitting the dude's at least in the top 3 - which is a long way from where I had him last year. He's got some work to do to be better than Mauer, but he's certainly proven he's a player. You'd also have a hard time convincing me that this won't be a 3-way battle between Soto, McCann, and Mauer in the years to come. Hell of a year for Geovany in his first full run through.

And read my sentence. I said you could argue he's 'at least top 3' - meaning he's top 3 at the very least. Sorry for using big words like 'least' to confuse you.

I had forgotten about this. Since the 2008 season, McCann is second in WAR for catchers. Mauer is first and has major injury concerns and might be headed to 1B sooner rather than later.
