Draft Pick Trading

This had come up earlier in the year with the AA rule so I figured I'd bring it up again here.

I think that we should modify it personally for couple of reasons, but primarily to make the TRC's job easier. I think that we should make the trading of any draft pick itself, i.e. selection 1.6 for Dexter Fowler illegal, but as soon as a player is taken with the pick, the player may be dealt, so let's say Aaron Crow (taken with the 6th pick) for Dexter Fowler.

This would eliminate a lot of doubts from a TRC's mind and perhaps make draft pick trades slightly more even in the long run. I don't know, I was just thinking about it and I think the value of the pick itself and the aura and mystique of the pick is far higher than the actual player itself, and I think this would be a more than fair compromise.

Totally disagree, I believe the system we had this year worked just fine.

I'm on the fence honestly. I can see JP's points, but restricting pick trading seems like it will dampen the number of trades around the draft significantly.

On the one hand, guys get pretty high prices for their picks, but on the other some of the young teams are not exactly pulling it together quickly, so it's not paying off.

My bigger concern is that if we allow a guy to be traded as soon as he's drafted we're opening ourselves up to guys sitting on their picks waiting for trade offers.

it was already like that last year for the first round.

Before the draft officially started the first round was basically over, no one was on the clock at that point.

Right, so if everyone is on the clock this time, which I'd assume will be the case, there's no problem.

Yeah, regardless of pick trading rules, we must be on the clock from pick #1 this year. We also don't have to start exactly when Bren dictated in the past.

That sounds about right.
