Not posting this in 'Best games in IBC history' - but a place to put weird and wonderful for the 2024 season -
Kikuchi lost a no-hitter with 2-outs in the 9th on an infield single

Then he follows up with 8 no-hit innings, before giving up a 9th inning single and HR to consecutive batters to tie the game.

Temporary replacements while I wait out my major injuries...there are some fun stats to review to find fun players for the sim.

Personally I don't think you should be allowed to ride SP who only project as starters because they opened a couple games the previous season. Dudes throwing more innings in a single game than they otherwise would in a month (in AA at age 29) isn't really fair - obviously they're going to perform like #3/4 starters in the sim, which doesn't know the difference. But that's just me

We've never attempted to put restrictions on players' ratings before. There's an equally hilarious and terrible amount of defensive ratings that aren't deserved either, as well as some notable misses (Edman not rating in CF at all; Tatis being "AV" in RF).
The only argument could be to enforce playing time limits, but then you're drastically altering the valued of oft-injured players even more. e.g., player projects for 300 PA and manages to stay healthy for 150 games. That player is worth half as much as he should be.

I agree with JP. I get that it doesn't make sense, but this league has 20+ years now of experience with sim stars out of the blue, thanks to DMB (and zips).

Yeah. We used to even embrace it at one point, whatever years those were - 02, 03? - with the carryover players. Tanyon Sturtze!

Quad-A guys throwing up above-average seasons out of nowhere and people like Eloy Jimenez staying healthy for a whole season are low-probability events, but at least they occasionally happen.
I don’t think there’s been a single instance in MLB history where a 28 year old career minor-league reliever just showed up and threw 200 IP of 3.25 ERA ball. I mean…it’s just not even possible.
Also Tatis is currently at -1 OAA rn, so the Av rating doesn’t seem all that absurd, either. i think his point has always been that 1 year of defensive metrics isn’t a statistically relevant sample

Do you think I want to play these guys?
I have 8 SPs, 6 of them were on the IL at the same time.
Webb, Cole, Gray, Eovaldi, Peterson (4 of 5)
Hoglund, Cavalli, Roby (2 of 3)
So yea, my 9th and 10th SP options much like a real team are going to be closer to multi inn RPs than SPs.

If this is the case, why bother with the bidding on projections. There have always been sim stars in every league I’ve been in. It’s what makes dmb fun in my opinion.

I agree with sim stars being the fun part of the game.
It does make the most over-rated position in DMB the 4th/5th innings eater starter. Paul Blackburn is a valuable MLB asset. I should probably cut him in DMB because there is almost always going to be a guy on waivers who will potentially sim better.
edit: Instead of over-rated, it should be the most useless projections.

In the game of 7/19/24, Luis Robert of the Diamondbacks went 5 for 5 with 10 RBI in a 16-5 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He had 3 HR, a double and a single. He hit a grand slam in the 2nd inning, a 3 run HR in the 4th, a 2 run single in the 5th inning and a solo HR in the 7th. He also doubled in the 1st inning but that did not drive in any runs.

The Diamondbacks hit 11 doubles in an 11-1 win over the Rockies, which was the Dbacks 17th win in a row. Their win streak was broken in the next game with a 6-5 Rockies win in extra innings.
The major league record for doubles in a game by a team is 13, by the Cardinals in 1931. 3 other teams managed 12.
