Orioles Prospect Report - March 2023

Post by Orioles »

From BA's March 27th Prospect Report...

Peyton Pallette, RHP, White Sox: With their second-round pick in 2022, the White Sox made an upside play and took Peyton Pallette out of Arkansas. In his sophomore season, the righthander's three-pitch mix intrigued analysts thanks to a 93-95 mph fastball with excellent shape, a high-spin curveball in the high 70s and a high-80s changeup with enough movement to get whiffs and grounders.

Pallette never got to reinforce his draft stock during his junior year, which ended before it started because of preseason Tommy John surgery. He was back on the mound on Monday on the back fields for two-plus innings against the Brewers. He was excellent in his first inning, striking out all three hitters he faced with a fastball that touched 95 and a high-70s curveball. He threw 16 pitches and got five swings and misses in the frame

2023 GM Totals: 1780 W - 1460 L | 0.549 wpct | 89-73 (avg 162 G record)

From BA's March 28th Prospect Report...

Eury Perez, RHP, Marlins: One of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Perez started yesterday in an intrasquad scrimmage. Despite a couple of hard-hit balls in play, Perez showcased his premium stuff with an element of pitchability. His four-seam fastball sat 96-98 mph, touching 99 mph with average spin rates between 2,600 and 2,700 rpm. He mixed in a cut fastball in the mid 90s, a true cutter in the high 80s to low 90s, a mid-to-high-80s slider, a changeup that flashed plus and a slower, downer curveball.

Perez has a unique ability to show multiple variations of his fastball with a variety of secondary looks to keep hitters off balance. When he attacks the top of the zone with his four-seam fastball he’s nearly unhittable. At just 19 years old he provides a world of promise and should start the season in Double-A. A midseason promotion to the major leagues isn’t out of the question, as Perez possesses some of the best stuff of any pitcher in the minor leagues.
