NFL Offseason

Post by Orioles »

So which team is winning the offseason in the loaded AFC West? Not the chefs (Ju Ju? HA!)

I'd say it's the Chargers right now because they added 2 impact defenders in Mack and Jackson, but if the Raiders add a CB like Gilmore and get some help on the interior OL, watch out. Davante and Chandler Jones not a bad start for the Zeigler/ McDaniels era.

I'm pretty excited to have Matt Ryan under center next year. I had spent all spring talking myself into Gardner Minshew as the best candidate (and he would've been a ton of fun to root for) but I expected to wind up with Jimmy G or Baker.

Colts have a good roster and still have big $ to spend on another piece. Need another WR to go with Pittman, right?

I know the Packers have been spoiled for 30 years with two HoF QBs, but wasn't this the year to reset, trade away the few stars they have, pile up the picks and find a new QB to build around.

Instead they chose cap hell, traded away their best WR and still have a so so defense.

I know Rodgers' history with rookie WR, but the recent impacts of Jefferson, Chase et al are instructive in a year with a deep, quality WR class. Imagine landing Jameson Williams at 22 (ok bad example b/c he's hurt, but still) or Burk or Dotson at 28. All those dudes have a chance to be an impact WR sooner rather than later. Packers want to avoid having a rebuilding year so it feels like they're hoping to hang onto Rodgers until they see a QB in the draft worth going all in on. If Love isn't the guy, which it's hard to believe he is but he's not done or anything.

I agree Love isn't the guy and this QB class sucks, but you don't get a franchise QB with the 20th overall pick and 1st round playoff exits, but spending at the cap per year for the next 4 years on that sort of result seems illogical.

The tank for two years, get younger in a still awful division and be back on top without wasting a shit ton of money on a QB that has no intent of taking a cut to help his chances seems better.

Let's not forget that Adams asked out, the Packers wanted to pay him.

Would you really want to play on that team again, double triple coverage and no shot at a ring...where he landed isn't great, but still seems better for the 50/50.

Oh no I don't blame him, but I also don't think you blame the Packers for not wanting to reset when they tried to go all in on keeping the band together and the lead guitarist quit anyway.

Wasn't that in my first post where I thought they were stupid for what they did in not reseting?

I didn’t read it that way. Did you mean to imply that given that Adams was leaving they should reset? They had to decide on Rodgers first. I think you have to play the Rodgers thing out, if you trade him for picks you probably end up with late round picks because of what Rodgers will do for the team he gets to. Meanwhile the NFC North is eminently winnable so I think you have to take the window while it’s there.

I think the fact that Rodgers wanted the highest money ever, it was time to move on, expensive qbs don't win super bowls anymore. If they weren't resigning him, you move to trade adams and other guys. Going all in on Rodgers and then doubling down on Adams is good money after bad. I get it, but running back a team that is losing other stars, not getting younger, and got bounced in first match is not a good look.

I tend to agree that if you have Aaron Rodgers you go for it with whatever you got for as long as you can. He can lift even a mediocre team to win that division. You have to expect impact from your draft, which I think most teams count on these days more than in the past. I know it seems like guys like Mahomes grow on trees because of the emergence of Burrow and Herbert, but as a fan of a team that had no QB for many many years I can tell you when you have a QB capable of winning the SB, you hold on for dear life. Especially if he's an all-timer like Rodgers.

Raiders new brass have done a nice job so far with one glaring exception in the offensive line. It needs to improve and all they've done is re-sign 2 mediocre dudes and get another back from an ACL. Not good enough. Better hit a home run with that 3rd rounder. Other than that they've added great depth at LB, DL and S. The CBs look... young. Hopefully Ya-Sin or Mullen breaks out and becomes a true shutdown guy. Could use another guy there. Chandler Jones pairs nicely with Maxx Crosby and didn't get an insane contract so they're set at pass-rusher. The offense is looking like an absolute monster at the skill positions:

QB1 D. Carr
QB2 G. Gilbert
RB1 J. Jacobs
RB2 K. Drake
RB3 B. Bolden
TE1 D. Waller
TE2 F. Moreau
TE3 J. Hollister
WR1 D. Adams
WR2 H. Renfrow
WR3 B. Edwards
WR4 D. Robinson
WR5 M. Hollins
