Barring injuries if the IBC season were to open soon it appears his would be my Opening Day roster, batting order and primary pitchers:

CF - Steven Kwan* .287/.343/.427, 10 HR, 106 OPS+ (-2 @CF)
RF - Bryan de la Cruz .270/.321/.410, 14 HR, 98 OPS+ (-2 @ RF)
DH - Seth Beer* .259/.340/.424, 17 HR, 102 OPS+ (-4 @ 1B)/Griffin Conine .215/.279/.416, 23 HR, 86 OPS+ (3 @ RF)
1B - Elehuris Montero .262/.319/.452, 21 HR, 92 OPS+ (-1 @ 3B)/Seth Beer* .259/.340/.424, 17 HR, 102 OPS+ (-4 @ 1B)
3B - Miguel Vargas .262/.309/.426, 19 HR, 96 OPS+ (3 @ 3B)
2B - Luis Guillorme* .256/.347/.349, 93 OPS+ (1 @ 3B)/Michael Stefanic .266/.328/.380, 12 HR, 93 OPS+, (2 @ 2B)
.C - Gabriel Moreno .259/.308/.445, 103 OPS+ (3 @ C)
SS - Bryson Stott .244/.317/.384, 12 HR, 87 OPS+ (4 @ SS)
LF - Travis Demeritte .228/.307/.438, 19 HR, 92 OPS+ (-1 @ RF)

Bench:
.C - Bryan Lavastida .248/.312/.386, 11 SB, 96 OPS+ (-6 @ C) - also plays 3B
SS - Jose Rodriguez .261/.285/.489, 17 HR, 17 SB, 87 OPS+ (-6 @ SS) - also plays 2B
CF - Garrett Hampson .250/.305/.404, 12 HR, 20 SB, 77 OPS+ (-2 @ SS) - also plays 2B, SS
... Justin Dean .213/.289/.333, 21 SB, 63 OPS+ (6 @ CF) - also plays LF, RF

SP - Casey Mize 4.20 ERA, 121/44 K/BB (148.0 IP) 101 ERA+
... Zach Thompson 4.30, 74/29 (81.7) 100 ERA+
... Mitchell White 4.38, 87/30 (88.3), 98 ERA+
... Edwin Uceta 4.56, 85/36 (81.0) 98 ERA+
... Tylor Megill 4.34, 131/43 (118.3) 95 ERA+

BP - (LR/MU) John King* 4.38, 54/20 (61.7) 102 ERA+ - 111 ERA+ strictly as a RP per DS
... (LHSU) Dylan Lee* 4.15, 48/17 (47.7) 109 ERA+
... Ryan Sherriff* 4.09, 30/16 (33.0) 106 ERA+
... (RHSU) Codi Heuer 3.71, 64/21 (68.0) 118 ERA+
... Colby White 3.54, 61/23 (53.3) 115 ERA+

CL - Garrett Crochet* 3.29, 66/23 (52,0) 134 ERA+

Likely will platoon DH, 1B and 2B and will probably flip flop Stefanic and Conine in the batting order when facing lefties. This team is very right hand oriented.

Young club hopefully poised for some positive growth this season. With the exception of Hampson and Dean off the bench, not blessed with guys inclined to steal bases. SP is definitely in search of a long term staff leader ... Presupposing some injuries and relative lack of projected IP, SP will be supplemented by Freddy Tarnok 4.78, 75/34 (79.0) 94 ERA+, Connor Seabold 5.15, 60/25 (71.7) 91 ERA+ and Tommy Henry* 4.94, 111/54 (114.7) 90 ERA+. Without question the offense is going to have to score some runs to keep us in the games.

The 2022 IBC White Sox Obit/Season Summary. ...

Post by Padres »

Went into the 2022 season knowing full well it would be a losing season after a vigorous roster shake up resulted in a rather young team so not at all surprised with a final record of 66-96 (.407) and a -147 run differential. Might have finished marginally better if the pitching staff was not heavily beset by the dreaded TJ (lost Garrett Crochet, Codi Heuer and Colby White pre-season severely impacting the bull pen as well as Casey Mize and Max Meyer after only a few starts a piece) while newly acquired MacKenzie Gore also spent much of the season on the DL. Hopefully all or most will return healthy by mid-2023 or sooner.

But it was not a lost season as 4 young players played all 162 games and did well. Steven Kwan, who will only play LF next season, hit .272/.324/.378 and led the team with 82 RBI, 34 doubles, 7 triples, 11 sac flys (2nd in the AL) and 53 BB. He led the AL by a wide margin with 570 balls in the park. OF Bryan De La Cruz hit .274/.317/.441 leading the team with 30 HR, 185 hits and tied for the team lead with 92 runs. He had an impressive 18 game hitting streak. At this point in time he will likely replace the disappointing Seth Beer (the only thing he did well was getting hit by the pitch tieing for the team lead at 15) at DH in 2023. 3B Miguel Vargas (who played 1B in 2022) started slowly but ended up hitting .258/.309/.425 and tied for the team lead in runs at 92. I expect he will only improve and should be a mainstay at 3B for the foreseeable future. 2B Michael Stefanic (who played 3B in 2022) hit .282/.348/.405, received the team's only intentional walk. Stefanic unfortunately led the team with 22 errors so at this point in time I am not sure he will see as much action in 2023. SS/2B Jose Rodriguez led the team with 15 SB in limited action (97 games) and may be next year's starting 2B. Gaberial Montero established himself at the starting Catcher. SS/2B/3B Luis Guillorme led the AL with 6 sac bunts.

Moreover the White Sox finished mid-pack in the AL in total team batting at .248/.303/.382 but were last in slugging percentage and total HR at 156. The team definitely hit LHP better at .258/.308/.403 versus .245/.302/.375 against RHP and this played out as they were 23-20 against LHP versus 43-76 against RHP. ALC rivals largely rolled over them as the White Sox finished 25-51 within the division but fared better against NL teams at 10-10. The team's .980 fielding percentage placed them in the lower third of the AL and team defense will continue to be addressed in 2023. On the bright side the White Sox only allowed a league low 88 SB while getting 60 attempted steals caught leading the AL with a solid .595 SB%.

Returning to pitching, the makeshift squad finished near the bottom of the AL with a 4.73 total team ERA, had absolutely no complete games, had the least total K at 1266, gave up the most HR at 249, had the 3rd worst amount of wild pitches at 117, the 2nd worst QS% at .309 but there were a few bright spots. Rookie Dylan Lee tied for the AL lead in saves at 29 and save opportunities at 37 while leading the league with 58 games finished. Fellow rookie Ryan Walker led the AL in holds (and established a new team seasonal statistical record) with 30 pitching in a league high 94 games. Mitch White tied a rather dubious team seasonal statistical record allowing 37 HR - he has since been released. Another SP, Connor Seabold, provided many needed but largely inefficient IP and he has also has been released. Rookie Tommy Henry led the team with 166 K in 162.1 IP and may be the team's 5th SP in 2023. Dane Dunning and Henry led the team with 31 games started.

Near the end of the season the White Sox traded draft capital to acquire left handed hitting OF Oscar Colas to hopefully provide power and stabilize RF in the future. Other young players acquired during the season via trades include infielders Max Muncy, Edwin Arroyo, Lenyn Sosa and pitcher Josiah Gray. They along with current team members are providing the team with a viable pipeline
