Hunter Greene, RHP, Triple-A Louisville (Reds)—Greene picked up his 10th win of the season against Nashville, striking out six and walking three over five innings of two-run (one earned) ball while allowing four hits. The hard-throwing 22-year-old righthander is 10-6, 2.93 with 133 strikeouts and 37 walks in 98.1 innings.

Marlins: Peyton Burdick, OF (No. 15)
A 2019 third-round pick out of Wright State, Burdick looks like a steal after slamming 31 homers in his first 165 pro games. He has big raw power and has adjusted well to Double-A pitching in his first full pro season, batting .338/.446/.597 with five homers in 21 games over the last month. He's hitting .228/.373/.466 in 96 games overall and leads the Double-A South with 67 runs and 70 walks while ranking third with 20 homers.

ERA
Taj Bradley (1.96) vs. Louie Varland (1.98) vs. Logan Allen (2.14) vs. Peyton Battenfield (2.15) vs. Xzavion Curry (2.15) vs. Jayden Murray (2.16)

If any category could feature an off-the-board winner, it’s in the fickle ERA category. Just this week, Murray was nearly tied with Bradley at the top -- they had given up the same amount of earned runs but were separated by just one-third of an inning -- but tumbled down after giving up three earned runs in four innings on Wednesday. One average outing down the stretch could be enough to keep a previous contender out of the race, and likewise, one string of season-ending scoreless starts could be enough to thrust a newbie to the title.

One interesting theme here: the list of six ERA heavyweights contains two Rays prospects (Bradley, Murray), two Cleveland prospects (Allen, Curry), one prospect that was traded from the Rays to Cleveland in the middle of the season (Battenfield) and a Twins prospect (Varland). Ranked No. 6 in the Tampa Bay system, Bradley might be the one to watch even if he wasn’t atop the list. He’s throwing in the mid-90s and features a plus slider in his four-pitch mix. The ERA crown would be a massive achievement to end his breakout 2021.

Giants: Kyle Harrison, LHP (No. 5), Low-A San Jose
Harrison was almost untouchable on Thursday night. The left-hander set a career-high in strikeouts with 12 as he threw five shutout innings and allowed two hits and two walks against Visalia. Harrison, who has a 3.49 ERA in 2021, posted a 2.33 ERA in 19 1/3 innings in August and has struck out a total of 45 batters over his past 25 1/3 innings for San Jose. The 20-year-old has a 14.5 K/9 through his first 21 starts since making his pro debut on May 8.

Kyle Harrison, Low-A San Jose (Giants) — Harrison's debut season reached new heights on Thursday night. The lefthander, drafted in 2020 out of high school in California, struck out a career-high 12 hitters against Visalia. The effort was his second double-digit strikeout game of the season, and pushed his season total to sixth-best in the minor leagues. Harrison is now one of just seven pitchers in the minors with 140 or more whiffs this season. Amazingly, three of those pitchers are Giants prospects: Harrison, Ryan Murphy (who was forced out of his Thursday start by reported back pain during pre-game warmups) and Carson Ragsdale.

Red Sox: Triston Casas, 3B (MLB No. 18), Double-A Portland
Despite what his August numbers showed, Casas wields some serious pop. The 21-year-old barreled three home runs — one of which traveled an estimated 472 feet — as part of a five-hit, seven-RBI doubleheader performance. That’s quite the breakout after Casas hit just one homer in 18 games last month while slugging .377. Though the power numbers had recently lagged, the on-base efficiency hasn’t: Casas has reached safely at least twice in five of his past six games.

https://www.mlb.com/news/top-prospect-p ... e-coverage

Triston Casas tied for the Olympic lead with three home runs during his run to a silver medal with Team USA but struggled to bring that power back with him from Japan, hitting just one long ball in 20 games since his return to Double-A Portland.

He got back to showing off that internationally renowned pop by equaling his Olympic feat all in one Friday night.

The No. 2 Red Sox prospect homered twice and plated five runs as part of a 3-for-4 showing to lead the Sea Dogs to an 8-3 win over New Hampshire in the first game of a doubleheader at Delta Dental Stadium. He also went deep and finished 2-for-4 in the nightcap, a 9-2 Sea Dogs victory...

Red Sox: Triston Casas, 1B (MLB No. 18), Double-A Portland
The homer train keeps trucking for Casas, who left the yard twice on Saturday after homering three times in a doubleheader on Friday. It’s amazing how quickly a story can change, isn’t it? After homering just once in 61 at-bats in August, Casas has five home runs in 13 at-bats so far in September. The 21-year-old is certifiably on fire. Oh, and he’s reached base in 11 of 17 plate appearances this month, which works out to a crisp .647 on-base percentage.

Rangers: Owen White, RHP (No. 29), Low-A Down East
White turned in the best start of his career in Down East’s 8-2 win over Kannapolis. The 22-year-old tossed five scoreless innings and fanned a career-best 12 batters on 19 swinging strikes while allowing two walks and two hits. It was White’s first time reaching five innings. The right-hander was drafted in 2018 but, due to injuries in 2019 and the pandemic cancelled season in 2020, made his professional debut this season. White owns a 3.66 ERA in 21 2/3 innings with 35 strikeouts to 12 walks.

3. Triston Casas, 1B, Red Sox
Team: Double-A Portland (Northeast)
Age: 21

Why He's Here: .471/.571/1.353 (8-for-17), 6 R, 5 HR, 11 RBIs, 4 BB, 2 SO, 1 CS.

The Scoop: If there has been one blemish in Casas’ 2021 season, it is that his power numbers haven’t always matched expectations. Casas is a hitter first, but he has big power potential, so when he entered September with only 18 extra-base hits and seven home runs all season, it was somewhat puzzling. This week has helped round out those numbers to some extent. Casas hit five home runs this past weekend, raising his slugging percentage by nearly 70 points over the course of five games. (JC)

5. Kyle Harrison, LHP, Giants
Team: Low-A San Jose (West)
Age: 20

Why He's Here: 1-0, 0.00, 1 GS, 1 G, 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 HBP, 2 BB, 12 SO

The Scoop: The Giants’ pitching in the low minors this year has been sublime—three of the top six strikeout totals this year belong to pitchers at either Low-A San Jose or High-A Eugene, and among lefties Harrison’s 141 strikeouts are second only to the Yankees’ Ken Waldichuk. In his latest start, Harrison whiffed a dozen, good for a career best. Harrison is also one of just two pitchers in the minors this season to have thrown more than 80 innings and allowed two or fewer home runs. (JN)

Twins: Matt Wallner, OF (No. 14), High-A Cedar Rapids
Wallner hasn’t had an easy past five weeks after he entered August hitting .330 with a 1.061 OPS, as he’s since seen both drop to .260 and .846, respectively, after Tuesday. But can a 3-for-4 night help the 23-year-old turn things around? Against Wisconsin, Wallner recorded his most total bases (seven) since July 28 on the back of his third-inning grand slam (also his first homer since Aug. 21).

Twins: Matt Wallner, OF (No. 14), High-A Cedar Rapids
Wallner went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in Cedar Rapids’ 11-5 win over Wisconsin, continuing a strong start to September. After batting .185 in 92 at-bats in August, Wallner has hit .320 (8-for-25) in his first six games to begin the final month of the season. Before going on the injured list with a right wrist sprain on May 26, Wallner batted .333 with a .977 OPS in his first 19 games of 2021. But since returning on July 20, Wallner has hit .240 in 39 games

Kyle Harrison, LHP, Low-A San Jose (Giants)—Harrison, a 2020 third-rounder, added another strong start on Wednesday to what has been an encouraging debut season. The 20-year-old lefthander struck out eight and walked one over six innings of one-run ball. Harrison, who is 3-3, 3.36 in 93.2 innings, ranks sixth in the minor leagues with 149 strikeouts.

Hunter Greene, RHP, Reds
Opening Day Assignment: Double-A Chattanooga
Opening Day Age: 21.74

After injury and underperformance marred the first years of his pro career, Greene came back with a vengeance in 2021. The righthander has paired his signature triple-digit fastball with a vicious slider and burgeoning changeup to strike out 136 hitters through his first 102.1 innings at the upper levels. He still has polish left to apply, but his rebound season—after two years between official games—has been a success.

Tigers: Joey Wentz, LHP (No. 13)
Remember him? Wentz was in a Double-A Erie rotation alongside Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning in 2019 but fell behind the others after undergoing Tommy John surgery a year later. He’s back and healthy at Double-A now and seems to be finding his own form in the final weeks of the season. Wentz owns a 2.70 ERA with 24 strikeouts in his last five starts (23 1/3 innings). He is sitting on 72 frames for the season heading into the season’s final weeks.

Giants: Kyle Harrison, LHP (No. 5)
The best healthy high school left-hander in the 2020 Draft, Harrison signed for late first-round money ($2,497,500) in the third round and has seen his stuff improve since. He's working in the mid-90s and touching 98 mph with his fastball while flashing a plus slider and feel for a changeup. He has a 1.05 ERA with a .167 opponent average and a 47/9 K/BB ratio in 25 2/3 innings during the last month, improving his overall Low-A numbers to a 3-3 record with a 3.36 ERA and 149 strikeouts in 93 2/3 frames in his pro debut.

4. Shea Langeliers, C, Braves
Double-A Mississippi

At Baylor, Langeliers earned plaudits as one of the best defensive catchers in the country. If not for Adley Rutschman, he would have been the best overall catcher in the 2019 draft class. Still, he was drafted ninth overall by Atlanta.

Langeliers has spent 2021 in the Double-A South showing that he’s a lot more than just a catch-and-throw guy. He won the Best Power Prospect category and received votes for Best Batting Prospect as well, though that category ultimately went to Reds shortstop Jose Barrero. What’s most encouraging for the 23-year-old Langeliers’ future is that his home park in Mississippi is the mostsuppressive home run park in the upper levels of the minor leagues.

Langeliers predictably got the nod as the Best Defensive Catcher in the league, but also earned the most votes for Most Exciting Player. In a league with players like Barrero, Futures Game MVP Brennen Davis, dynamic Marlins duo Max Meyer and Jake Eder and Reds fireballer Hunter Greene, that’s really saying something.

Twins: Cole Sands, RHP (No. 19), Double-A Wichita
Sands hurled one of his best starts of the season, going six one-hit innings while striking out five. Sands retired the first eight batters in order before surrendering a two-out single in the third, but he recovered quickly and scattered two walks over the next three innings as he never let a baserunner reach scoring position. The 24-year-old tossed 40 of his 72 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 2.63 in 18 appearances (17 starts) with 92 strikeouts in 75 1/3 innings.

https://www.mlb.com/news/top-prospect-p ... e-coverage

Owen White, RHP, Low-A Down East (Rangers): White’s final few starts of the year are going to leave him wishing the season could stretch a little longer. He struck out 10 Low-A Carolina hitters on Sunday as he went six innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while walking no one. That follows up his 12 strikeouts in five innings in his previous start.

Braves: Shea Langeliers, C (MLB No. 71), Double-A Mississippi
The second-ranked Braves prospect notched his third multihit effort in the past five games and tied his season high with four RBIs. The 23-year-old opened the scoring with an RBI single to center in the first inning, connected on his 21st home run of the year -- a two-run shot -- to right-center in the third, and drove in an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to left in the seventh. Langeliers is sporting a .257/.332/.492 slash line with 34 extra-base hits, 54 runs scored and 50 RBIs over 90 games with the M-Braves this season.

Giants: Kyle Harrison, LHP (No. 5), Low-A San Jose
Harrison’s professional career is still in its infancy, but he's gotten better as the season has progressed. The southpaw continued his upward trajectory with five shutout innings and eight strikeouts, now leading Low-A West with a 3.19 ERA. Harrison has been on one heck of a run as of late; in his past seven starts, Harrison has a 1.17 ERA across 30 2/3 innings with 61 strikeouts to 12 walks.

Rangers: Owen White, RHP (No. 29), Low-A Down East
White took a no-hitter into the eighth inning before allowing a hit and struck out 11 batters over 7 2/3 innings in a dominant day on the hill. The 22-year-old allowed a single and a home run before coming out of the game, but his performance put Down East in position to clinch a spot in the Low-A East playoffs. White closed out the year with a 3.06 ERA over eight starts and 35 1/3 innings with 54 strikeouts to 12 walks and a .205 batting average against.

https://www.mlb.com/news/top-prospect-p ... e-coverage

Owen White, RHP, Rangers: In White’s final three starts of the season he struck out 12, 10 and 11 batters. He ended up striking out 33 of the 69 batters he faced this month, capping the month by allowing two runs in 7.2 innings on a two-run Patrick Merino home run. White actually carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning—the only baserunner who reached in the first seven innings was on an error.

11. Owen White, RHP, Rangers
Team: Low-A Down East (East)
Age: 22

Why He’s Here: 1-0, 2.35, 7.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 11 SO

The Scoop: White’s performance on the final day of the regular season was among the most clutch of the week. With his team needing a win over Charleston to have a chance at a spot in the playoffs, White spun seven hitless innings with 10 strikeouts before the RiverDogs got to him a little bit in the eighth. Nonetheless, White’s outing carried Down East to the victory it needed, which paid off later in the day when Salem fell to Delmarva. Though injury limited White to just nine outings (eight starts), the righthander saved his best for last. He whiffed 33 hitters in 18.2 innings in September, the most of any pitcher in the minor leagues. (JN)

Rays: Taj Bradley, RHP (No. 6), High-A Bowling Green
Bradley took the loss in Bowling Green’s playoff game, but that’s no indication of how he performed. The 20-year-old allowed two unearned runs on two hits in six innings, while collecting nine strikeouts. That drops his ERA to 1.69 through nine starts in High-A and he owns a 10.8 strikeouts-per-nine rate in that span. The Rays’ fifth-round pick in 2018 was spectacular in Low-A action this season, too, posting a 1.76 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings.

Braves: Drew Waters, OF (MLB No. 80), Triple-A Gwinnett
Statistically, 2021 has been the worst of Waters’ four-year pro career, but he has posted some of his strongest performances in the season's closing days. The 22-year-old collected his second three-hit game of the week on Saturday, which included a solo shot and a pair of runs scored. Entering the night, he had career lows in all three slash categories (.239/.330/.374), but on the plus side his 10 home runs are a career best.

Rockies: Ryan Rolison, RHP (MLB No. 97), Triple-A Albuquerque
Rolison dominated through five scoreless innings, allowed just a hit and three walks while striking out eight. This season has been one filled with travel for Rolison, who went from Double-A, to Triple-A, to the injured list. He returned to make rehab starts in Rookie ball and High-A before heading back to Albuquerque, meaning he has thrown at four Minor League levels this season. The 24-year-old was touched up for 18 runs in his first four starts this month (8.38 ERA), and Saturday’s scoreless start was his first since June.

Astros: Hunter Brown, RHP (No. 3), Triple-A Sugar Land
The high strikeout rate Brown flashed at Double-A this season (76 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings) hadn’t transferred to the Triple-A level until Saturday. Brown matched his career high by striking out 10 batters in 5 1/3 innings, while also allowing just one run. He hit the double-digit punchout total in consecutive June starts with Double-A Corpus Christi, and now the 2019 fifth-rounder has done it at the highest level of the Minors. He also has a 2.66 ERA in five starts this month.

Triston Casas, 1B, Red Sox — The 2021 silver medalist kicked off his Arizona Fall League campaign with a bang by going deep in his first at-bat of the season. The top Red Sox prospect smacked 14 homers in the regular year over 86 games while showing the ability to hit for average and get on base. The 21-year-old Casas has the look of a powerful, profile masher at first base who will fit nicely into Boston's lineup in the near future.

Rangers: Owen White, RHP (No. 29), Surprise Saguaros
White turned in a stellar start in his first taste of the Arizona Fall League, earning the win after tossing five scoreless innings of two-hit, five-strikeout ball in Surprise’s 1-0 victory over Salt Lake. The right-hander issued back-to-back walks with two outs in the third, but he was able to escape the jam with some help from Reds prospect Michael Siani, who made a spectacular diving catch in center to rob Rockies prospect Michael Toglia of a hit. White retired the final six batters in order to cap his strong performance.

https://www.mlb.com/news/fall-league-pr ... e-coverage

Owen White, RHP, Rangers — Though he was drafted in 2018, White did not make his professional debut until this season. Injuries and the pandemic kept him on the shelf until now, and even this year was limited by an early hand injury. On Thursday, he was matched against a Salt River lineup which featured three 2021 Futures Gamers (Spencer Torkelson, Michael Toglia and Brett Baty) and Herculean Brewers outfielder Joey Wiemer. Even with all that firepower, White threw up five zeroes. The big-armed righthander danced around a pair each of hits and walks to whiff five in his Fall League debut. White put himself back on the map this season, and he could use the AFL to become a household name.

Marlins: Kameron Misner, OF (No. 22), Mesa Solar Sox
Misner cranked his first homer of the Fall League and a double out of the leadoff spot in a 2-for-5 effort with two runs scored. On the fifth pitch of the game, Misner ripped a double to right and immediately came around to score on Jonah Bride’s double in the next at-bat. The left-hander batter added a solo shot in the top of the ninth, serving as icing on the cake in Mesa’s 9-3 win. It was Misner’s first dinger since Sept. 4 with Double-A Pensacola.

Twins: Matt Wallner, OF (No. 14), Scottsdale Scorpions
Wallner belted his first Arizona Fall League dinger to help power Scottsdale to an 8-2 win over Peoria. With his team trailing, 1-0, through the first three innings, the 23-year-old stepped to the plate after Triston Casas singled for the first Scorpions hit of the night. Wallner followed by parking an 0-1 pitch to center field to give his club a lead they would not relinquish -- the Scorpions outscored the Javelinas 8-1 through the final six innings. Wallner plated another run in the ninth with a single, giving him three RBIs in a 2-for-5 performance. Across two levels in the regular season, Wallner clubbed 15 dingers and drove in 47 runs in 68 games.
