Bad news for the league.
Unfortunately, Bren has resigned as GM of the Padres.
Technically, he did so in late April. The plan was for his brother to be onboarded and run the team, with Nils and Bren steering him along, with Bren helping where he enjoys the most (the draft).
But Bren's brother lost interest, and that is no longer an option, so we are unfortunately moving on from Bren.
He'll be welcomed back if and when we get another opening. Who knows when MLB will expand as well.
As such, the Padres are ineligible for the playoffs (this is a rule we have -- no vacant team can be eligible for the playoffs). We'll run the team for the rest of the season and seek a replacement in the offseason, but it's unfair to the league to have a team this good receive absolutely no attention.
