Isn't This Treason?

Post by Giants »

Berkeley is at it again, this time telling the Marine Corps recruiting office that it is no longer welcome in the city. By a vote of 8-1 they not only asked the Marines to leave, but they also voted to allow antiwar protests in the parking space in front of the recruiting office, and actively encouraged nonviolent protests on city property in front of the office. Our definition of treason is pretty narrow, so maybe this doesn't fit, but doesn't a city actively encouraging its citizens to interfere with military officers' duties on American soil during wartime constitute something pretty fucked up? Say what you will about the merits of the current conflict, but the truth is that most of the people in Berkeley are still trying to stop the Vietnam War. The really sad thing is that they are beginning to acknowledge that they continue to protest just to be contrary. Even the people in the trees trying to stop the new football stadium say that they are basically there to uphold Berkeley's reputation as a protest town, not so much out of love for the trees. At a certain point don't you lose the moral high ground and just start being difficult?

Would anyone really be upset if we just went into Berkley and killed everyone? Its not like these people are ever going to have any kind of positive impact on society. They're a bunch of hippies that don't want to actually, you know, get a job or be productive citizens. At the very least, call out the fire department and have them turn the water cannons on them

We are talking about a town that once actually passed a measure declaring themselves neutral in the even of a space war above Berkeley. Seriously. Their biggest municipal debate over the past few years was about what kind of coffee they should allow to be sold in the cafes there. Nobody cares what those kooks think.
