This season the Big East is unquestionably better than the ACC, and arguably better than the Big 10. Next season it may not be, but if you follow college football even a little, it's pretty easy to see that the ACC is the worst of the six major conferences this year.Brewers wrote:if you honestly think the big east now is good then you clearly dont know anything. UConn lost @ UVA by 1 pt. in a game they should have won had they not fumbled a snap. UConn, despite their record, is not a great team. UVA leads the ACC "Coastal" division. The Big East's non-conference wins are much better than the ACC's are. WVU crushed Maryland at College Park (31-14), and beat up Mississippi State (38-13), Cincinnati beat Oregon St. (34-3), USF won at Auburn (26-23) and crushed Butch Davis's UNC team (37-10), and Louisville (which isn't a very good team this year) stomped NC State in their stadium (28-10). Boston College, the ACC's "best team" has zero wins against teams from the other 5 major conferences. Their non-conference wins? Notre Dame, Army, UMass (ha!), and Bowling Green. Puuhhlease.
The Big East isn't close to the SEC or Pac-10, and is probably behind the Big 12 (even in a down year). At worst its just behind the Big 10, but much better than the craptastic ACC.

Don't wait up for Jake to put a logical response to your comment. The sum of his argument thus far...
"worst major conference in the history of college football"
"the big least"
"if you honestly think the big east now is good then you clearly dont know anything. Its the worst of the 6 major conferences by FAR."
This from the guy who is on record as saying UC would lose by 35. What school did you go to Jake?

WVU is the only good team in the big east. Skill wise Uconn isnt that good, however they were able to put it together and get it together. Every other team sucks. USF was ranked 2nd and then lost 3 straight games! how is that good? every other team was either .500 or below in conference. Maryland the "worst" team in the atlantic ACC beat rutgers when they were ranked 10th. Neither the ACC nor the Big East are good but the Big East is by far the worst conference and you hear it every weekend on TV.

USF lost 3 games by a combined 15 pts to conference opponents, 2 of them on the road, and all 3 to teams that have been ranked at some point this year.
Wait, the TV said the Big East is the worst? Oh, well, we all know if someone says it on TV, it must be true. What are you watching, "Inside the ACC?" Please, I watch "College Football Live" on ESPN almost every day, and I don't recall them ever saying the Big East is the worst conference. The only person I've heard say that is Beano Cook - who's more funny loveable old man than legitimate college football analyst.
And if Maryland is terrible, and them beating Rutgers (the 4th or 5th best team in the BE) means something, then what does it mean that they just beat the ACC's best team (by far), BC?
That's seriously your entire argument why the Big East is the worst? You don't have some non-conference wins by the ACC or something to point to? Just that they said it on TV?

Not that these are definitive in any way, but Jeff Sagarin has a computer ratings system that ranks the strength of the conferences based solely on the quality of wins and losses (not taking into account victory margin). It compares who everybody has beaten in and out of conference. He's got 2 sets of ratings. One looks at every conference team, and the other tosses out the top and bottom teams (to eliminate the effect a team much worse or better than the rest of the conference can have - so for the Big East, Syracuse and WVU would be tossed, and in the ACC, Duke and BC would be out). Both rankings yielded the same results as of this morning.
1. SOUTHEASTERN
2. PAC-10
3. BIG EAST
4. BIG 12
5. ATLANTIC COAST
6. BIG TEN
Before yesterday, the ACC was at the bottom and the Big Ten #5, and the Big East was actually ahead of the Pac-10 (which shows the imperfection of his system). Also, when the top and bottom teams were tossed out (before yesterday's games), he had the Big 12 #3 and the Big East #4. As an attempt to take an unbiased look at conference strength though, it has some value.
For this season only, I'd probably rank them like this:
1. SEC
2. PAC-10
3. Big 12
4. Big East
5. Big Ten
6. ACC

There definitely needs to be a playoff, b/c the gap between the conferences has become less clear - so all the upsets makes it difficult to separate a good and bad wins and good and bad losses. Kansas has not yet beat a single team currently receiving even one top 25 vote, and they're gonna be #2. That's ridiculous.

Who do I have to root for to get OU into the Big12 title game? I'd like to see whoever wins next week lose in the title game to give WVU the best chance at a BCS title game shot.Mets wrote:Another good reason to root for Mizzou next Saturday!Marlins wrote:Kansas has not yet beat a single team currently receiving even one top 25 vote, and they're gonna be #2. First of all, LSU is as close to a lock as there is. LSU is in the SEC Title game against probably Tennessee (if they beat Kentucky for the 24th straight season) or Georgia (if UT somehow lost to the Wildcats).
The Sooners now have 2 losses but should beat OK State next week and still play in the Big 12 Title game against the winner of the KU/Mizzou game. If OU wins out they win the Big 12 but will likely not go the the BCS Championship game with two losses. If the JayHawks or the Tigers win out they will deservedly go to the BCS Championship game.
For WVU, it is down to West Virginia vs. UConn in the Big East Title game this Saturday. The winner will definitely be in the BCS Bowl picture but may not make the BCS Championship game as it would require OU winning the Big 12 and WVU getting selected over the Buckeyes.
The PAC-10 doesn't matter for the sake of the of the BCS Championship game. My thoughts are that USC will survive and go to the Rose Bowl.
Nor does it matter who wins the ACC for the sake of the BCS Championship game. However, Virginia Tech should win and a WVU/VT meeting in the Orange Bowl would be a good draw.
The Big 10 is done and the Buckeyes have clinched at worst, the Rose Bowl. They could still play in the BCS Championship game if the Sooners win the Big 12 as they could, with one loss, get selected over the winner of the Big East.
So if I were setting the odds of who will play in the BCS Championship game, as of today, I'd go:
LSU: 2-1
Missouri 5-1
The OSU: 5-1
KU: 7-1
WVU; 10-1

Missouri's probably got the second best chance.
After that I'd go WVU, OSU, KU.
Kansas still has beaten nobody, and I expect them to lose next week or in the Big 12 title game. No way they win 2 games. OSU has 2 losses, and NO wins against quality non-conference opponents (and no more games). WVU is going to kill UConn, which puts them in position to get into the BCS championship game if Missouri loses.
LSU 2-1
Missouri 5-1
WVU 7-1
KU 15-1
OSU 20-1
The crazy thing is that USC would probably beat all of these teams except for LSU.
