I coach at a high school that runs the Run and Shoot (the actual run and shoot, our OC coached with Mouse and June Jones and those guys back in the day), so I know the playbook and what was really frustrating to me about watching this game was that I could have called a better game than Hawaii did, they had one particular play called the Go that was working for them, they ran it three straight times successfully on that second drive when they kicked the field goal and then they didn't run it again, I just don't get it.

Im gonna say that, that is far from the reason why they lost. There were 3 clear reasons why Hawaii didn't win.

1. They have no run game, they ran the ball 9 times all game. Georgia was getting great pressure rushing only 3 guys during the game and with 8 guys back it forced Brennan to make shit throws.

2. They Can't stop the run. The defensive line was way over matched and everytime Georgia ran it up the gut they gained 4+ yards. And when you can't stop the run it sets up the play action perfectly which Stafford used effectively.

3. Georgia kept Brennan off the field. In the 1st half they scored on every position and played excellent clock management. When your "best" player isnt on the field its very hard to win.

I work in the middle of Bulldog country....this is gonna be a crappy week at work...All my co-workers will ahve their bulldog ties, and I won't be able to Wendy's without some redneck yelling "UGA, Whooooo"

1. You are absolutely correct. The real fault I find with the June Jones variant of the Run and Shoot is that it's always out of the shotgun, which makes it difficult to run. If Brennan took some snaps from under center the timing on run plays would have been there. Remember that Barry Sanders began his career as a Run and Shoot single back and rushed for more than 1300 yards each season. If they had run the ball more they would have scored.

2. You're right that they couldn't stop the run, but if they had executed and called better plays Georgia would not have been able to stop them, and they could score much faster than Georgia could, even with the physical talent mismatch. If the offense was humming they could have possibly eked out a 38-35 type win, or else at least hung closer.

3. Brennan was not on the field because the playcalling sucked and they couldn't sustain drives. This is not a new point, just a restatement of issue #1.

There is no denying it. College football is using a flawed system, but it's a flawed system that benefits Ohio State. The Buckeyes are in the national title game for the third time in six years, which means all they have to do is win one postseason game -- one -- to become national champion.

Why would they want to go to a system that would require them to win two or three games after the regular season? For Ohio State's purposes, this bad system is about as good as it gets. Win what most regard as a relatively weak Big Ten, make the national championship game. Win that game, win it all. No conference championship game and no treacherous early rounds to negotiate. In short, it's perfect -- for OSU.

No doubt, someone needs to make the Big 10 add a 12th team and play a championship game.

Or just change the rules so that if you want to play in a Major Bowl, you have to have played a Championship game for your conference and allow each conference to hold a championship game.
