I'm late chiming in (for a change, right?) But I want to add a thanks to Sean for everything he has done over the years. I'll never forget the first time he laid out OOPSS (and I saddled it with that absurd acronym) and what a huge improvement it was over what we had Previosuly. That's all thanks to him and the time he has invested.

You'll never forget it so much that you've known him for a decade and can't spell his name right.

In Bren's defense, we got really quite drunk this afternoon.

Thought it would be funny to go back and look at those early conversations for some historical perspective.
Session Start (SPW6soccer:brendilon): Mon Dec 26 22:35:29 2005
[22:35] SPW6soccer: does your hosting have php?
[22:36] SPW6soccer: php/mysql
[22:36] brendilon: No idea, I could find out.
[22:36] SPW6soccer: i'm going to be working on a php web site that works for sim leagues, just for practice, figure if it works good might as well spread it around
[22:37] brendilon: what's php?
[22:37] SPW6soccer: a web programming language, like html but more advanced
[22:37] brendilon: What's the advantage?
[22:38] SPW6soccer: um...its a little faster and more configurable...it stores information in a database so you can store things and then pull them out whenever you want, can't think of the term for it
[22:39] brendilon: I'll definitely take a look at it
[22:40] brendilon: Yeah, i've got PHP, MYSQL, SSI, etc
[22:40] SPW6soccer: ah nice
[22:40] SPW6soccer: i'll definately let you know how it works when i finish then
[22:40] brendilon: sweet
[22:41] SPW6soccer: basically i'm going to try to make it the end-all-be-all for rosters
[22:41] SPW6soccer: does lineups, signings, displays free agent list
[22:42] brendilon: nice
[22:42] brendilon: would it tap right into DMB?
[22:42] SPW6soccer: unfortunately i don't think so
[22:43] brendilon: damn shame
[22:43] brendilon: They should do something like that with v.10
[22:43] SPW6soccer: yea, would be real nice
Session Start (SPW6soccer:brendilon): Wed Dec 28 13:16:24 2005
[13:16] brendilon: How's it going?
[13:16] SPW6soccer: good you?
[13:16] brendilon: Not bad.
[13:16] brendilon: Got a Q for you.
[13:16] brendilon: How does MySQL work?
[13:17] SPW6soccer: um...its basically a database designed for web implementation
[13:17] SPW6soccer: it is what's used for most login systems
[13:17] SPW6soccer: because information retrieval is fast and it can store a lot of information
[13:18] brendilon: Ok, so what you're looking at setting up would help how exactly?
[13:19] SPW6soccer: you could store a team's roster, lineup and the free agents in there
[13:19] SPW6soccer: and signings could become a matter of clicking the player you want to sign and clicking a sign button...and that would move them to your roster and they would show up on a team display page and also a signings page
[13:20] SPW6soccer: free agency would become dynamic
[13:20] SPW6soccer: could probably even get it where they can create players themselves, i'm pretty sure
[13:21] brendilon: Interesting. That last bit might be risky, but interesting nonetheless
[13:21] SPW6soccer: i have to go, i can fill you in on more later tongiht if you want, but that was my basic plan
[13:21] SPW6soccer: ye
[13:21] SPW6soccer: yea
[13:21] brendilon: Thanks, that should be fine
[13:21] brendilon: I'm good to go
[13:21] SPW6soccer: ok, it will probably take me a while to code, but i plan on working on it the next week
OOPSS officially went live 3/17/2006 (though transactions were duplicated in the message board for a while) as a slightly modified version of what I had previously developed for MLBSL. Version 2 of the site (the current incarnation) went live on 2/22/2007.

Shawn, is there anyway to get OOOPS more integrated with DMB? I'm not saying folks here need to, but it would be cool if you could do your roster and shit here in OOOPS and then export a zip that could be integrated into the database. You really should think about packaging this interface and selling it to Sim Leagues. Its really a beautiful thing how it coexists with DMB. But if you could tie it in a little better for other start up leagues - so those without the sim can simply do most functions through the OOOPS system, and then a centralized person could get all files and import them into the DB like we do.. you could really have something on your hands there, something marketable and financially viable I would suppose.

Extremely unlikely, I'm pretty sure no one's reverse engineered the roster exports. I'm just not sure there's enough of a market that's willing to pay enough to support such a product.

Shit, Diamond Mind is in business somehow, sell it to them as something they can use as an add on feature for their product!

All I can say is wow. I know what most of those things are nowadays.

And thanks for getting my back on the name Andrew, GABF is a damn good place to get smashed.
And sober Me is just as appreciative as drunken Me.

Drunk or sober ... this techno-dinosaur still doesn't have the foggiest what even half of this means ... but I do appreciate what it has evolved into!

Not sure if this something you're still going to get to or not Shawn, but maybe an improved draft queue? Maybe a box next to each player to type a number that will order them in that spot rather than dozens of clicks to move guys up and down the list?
