i didnt wanna be the first to say something... isnt otsuka 35 and possibly up for TJ?

I don't want to speak out of turn, being on the TRC and all, but I was very close to vetoing this deal. If you guys think that it's bad enough to overturn, someone should challenge it and just see how the league votes. I definitely thought it was a bad deal, just didn't quite conclude that it was veto bad. Very close to that though, however you look at it.

Yep, that was essentially my basis. Otsuka is going to be 36 in January, and TJ surgery sounds like its his most likely scenario at this point, which could essentially end his mlb career.

I'm not a real big Maine fan, but Rodney doesn't seem like much of a return for a newbie to be getting for a starting pitcher who's probably going to have a projection in the low 4's next season.

Now, if Otsuka wasn't essentially facing a surgery that could end his mlb career or send him back to Japan if he choses to continue it in 12-18 months. Then it would seem a lot more balanced.

I agree. This deal should probably be reconsidered. New GMs sometimes don't realize how difficult it is to get good starting pitching in this league until they've already dealt away their best assets, so we should look especially closely when a new gm moves a good young SP.

Come on league, shit or get off the pot. Though I hate to project surgery/injury stuff that hasn't happened yet as an ExCo member I'll officially call for a challenge vote since it seems like several GMs are concerned.
