U2's new album premieres on MySpace before it drops in stores

I'm listening to U2's new album, "No Line on the Horizon," as a I write this post. The album won’t be available for purchase until March 3 in the U.S., but you can stream the entire album now on MySpace.com.

My quick take: I like it and so should long-time U2 fans. There's no ground-breaking sound, as Bono's voice appears as strong as ever. In other words, it sounds like a new U2 album.

U2 is not the first artist to debut new music on MySpace’s recently revamped music site: http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com ... e-ser.html, as Lily Allen, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Common, Oasis and others have as well.

One reason for allowing the free streams is an attempt to curb piracy.

Another reason is to sell ads. As I've listened to U2's new music this morning, the stream stopped after the fifth song and an ad appeared over the music player. The same thing happened after the ninth song.

If I wanted to continue with the stream, I needed to close the ad. That means I had to see the ad. Did I remember the advertiser? No, I was just annoyed.

But hey, times are tough and I suppose we all need to make a few more bucks.

Well as some of you know, U2 will be on every day next week on The Late show with David Letterman. I was lucky enough to win tickets to Tuesday's show, which is a nice day to go because that's the date of the actual album release. Anyway, I never watch Letterman, well I do once in awhile, but often just in the background. They called while I was in class today, couldn't answer obviously, was in class, was lucky enough to get a voicemail saying please call back ASAP, call back, no answer, leave a message, book it to my sisters because she's closer to where I go to school than my house is, get to a computer, set up Wiki...and then they call back an hour later, asked me what Rupert Jee's establishment was, CTRL F on Wiki didn't show anything so I guessed Deli, an educated guess but with NY comes Deli in my mind, worked out pretty well. Guaranteed to get into Tuesday's showing now. Pretty cool. Maximum capacity of like 1200. I'm sure they'll only play 2 or 3 songs but still cool to be able to go and see them in a super small venue.

Also, the album is streaming on U2.com as well as Myspace as Jim had said in the few posts above me.
