With the Mariner's now having traded Putz and Green (their two back end arms from last season) there is probably a good chance they end up signing Fields. Unless of course the new regime thinks it was a bad idea to waste a first round pick on a bullpen pitcher, in which case they may just hold out for the additional draft pick this year so they can help restock their minor league system.
That said, if you hadn't taken him, I would have had to.
Re: Rays draft Joshua 8-Fields with Pick #73
it sounds like this year's draft will be deeper than last's so they might get more for their money (and their pick) by deferring.Mariners wrote:Rays wrote:Rays draft Joshua 8-Fields with Pick #73

It is definately a possibility they defer and take the new pick in this year's draft. If they don't feel they are going to contend, it makes more sense to use the pick this season on a more important position or starting pitching prospect rather than cave and give the draft bonus to a bullpen arm. Will be interesting to watch as the M's new GM has a history of good drafts when he was with the Brewers.RedSox wrote:it sounds like this year's draft will be deeper than last's so they might get more for their money (and their pick) by deferring.Mariners wrote:Rays wrote:Rays draft Joshua 8-Fields with Pick #73
