Draft Rosters

Post by Marlins »

Hey guys, I was just reading about how Manfred considering allowing draft pick trading in the future and that the reason it was never allowed in the past basically was the "risk of teams making misguided moves." That sounds similar to the reasoning behind why we've always forced teams to have the 10 man draft roster from the past 2 drafts. With the league being overall rather stable the last few years and most teams keeping a stable prospect/MLB mix even beyond the 10 man, is it time to update things to either a 50 man roster with 5 man draft roster or even just straight to 55 man roster with no restrictions? I think if the latter, maybe we do it in stages: after the next draft we change it to 50/5 then after the following draft all the way to open 55. Thoughts?

Initial thoughts:

-I still like requiring some kind of draft roster. It keeps people engaged for the draft and makes it more difficult to completely trash the future of your roster

- I'm open to tweaks but I think the 10 player requirement adds a checks and balance and also adds a level of difficulty and strategy that I think adds to the league

-I would be open to adding 5 roster spots before reducing the draft requirements

While I haven’t decided how I feel about adjusting the draft roster requirements yet, I am opposed to increasing the roster size because of the adverse effect it would have on the free agent pool. Since we don’t have an IL most teams rely on that for replacement players and the pickings are pretty slim there already.

I agree 100% with Ken, I don't think we should increase the total roster size beyond 55.
