Giancarlo Stanton crushed three homers and finished with eight RBI on Wednesday in the Yankees’ blowout win over the Pirates in Grapefruit League action.

Stanton put on a legendary performance that will surely be enshrined into Grapefruit League lore for decades to come with a trio of tape-measure blasts off Pirates lefty Marco Gonzales totalling 1,334 feet in distance. The 34-year-old veteran slugger cleared the batter’s eye in center field with a 455-foot tape-measure shot in the opening frame before adding a 453-foot blast over the left-field scoreboard in the ensuing frame. Gonzales elected to pitch to him again a couple frames later for reasons that pass understanding at the moment. Stanton’s checkered injury history generates plenty of reason for skepticism from fantasy managers, but it’s undeniable that his offseason changes to his workout program give him a better chance to avoid serious injury this season.
