2009 Major Awards:
2009 AL Cy Young : James Shields
2009 AL Rookie of the Year: Matt Wieters
Shields won a combined 28 games in the regular season and postseason for the Tigers, including a team record 24 to win the Cy Young. He now holds the team mark for career wins at 48.
After being selected third overall in the 2007 draft, Wieters needed just one minor league season before being prepared to play 157 games as the Tigers' primary catcher in his rookie season.
2009 Team Award Winners:
Player of the Year: Miguel Cabrera - Cabrera started all 162 games and managed to score and drive in 117 runs, while banging out 40 home runs and 44 doubles.
Pitcher of the Year: James Shields - Shields' 3.70 ERA was actually above the team ERA of 3.67, but his win total illustrated his value as he started 34 games and pitched 241 innings and proved himself the definition of a modern day horse.
Minor League Player of the Year: Tyson Gillies - Gillies began to learn how to use his speed effectively as he hit .341/.430/.486 with 44 stolen bases, 14 triples and chipped in 9 home runs while playing top notch defense.
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Alex Colome - Colome emerged out of nowhere as a top pitching prospect, dominating the short season NY-Penn league to the tune of 76 IP, 46 H, 0 HR, 32 BB, 94 K and then being tabbed as a five star prospect by Baseball Prospectus' Kevin Goldstein.

2011 Tigers award winners
2011 Team Award Winners:
Player of the Year: Miguel Cabrera - Cabrera was edged out by Albert Pujols for the AL MVP award after hitting .350/.411/.605 and blasting 37 HR.
Pitcher of the Year: Travis Wood - In a bizarre season where Roy Oswalt, Josh Beckett and James Shields inexplicably pitched liked fourth starters, Wood stepped up as the ace of the Texas staff. He went 14-12 with a 4.00 ERA but logged 236.1 innings.
Minor League Co-Players of the Year: Jurickson Profar, Nolan Arenado - It was tough to separate these two for superlatives, as the pair of 2009 draft picks rose to the top of the prospect charts at their respective positions. Profar hit .286/.390/.493 as an 18-year-old in the SAL. He showed top end defensive ability and improved as the season progressed despite reporting early to play with major leaguers early in camp. Arenado drove in a remarkable 122 runs in 134 games, hitting 20 HR and controlling the strike zone with a 47/53 BB/SO ratio. He began the season as a 19-year-old in the Cal League on the way to his .298/.349/.487 season. He also dramatically improved his defense after losing some weight in the offseason.
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Garrett Gould - The former second-round pick bounced back from a rough pro debut by dominating the MWL, posting a 2.40 ERA, striking out 104 and walking 37.

2012 AL MVP: Miguel Cabrera
2012 Team Award Winners:
Player of the Year: Miguel Cabrera - Cabrera was the best hitter in the AL, putting up a .355/.437/.603 line with 38 HR, 42 2B, driving in 154 runs, and scoring 125. He started all 162 games.
Pitcher of the Year: Josh Beckett - No pitcher stood out on the staff this season, but Beckett was the best of a solid, unspectacular bunch. He won just 11 games but posted a 3.60 ERA in 202.2 innings, allowing 201 hits, 45 walks and 24 home runs while striking out 164.
Minor League Player of the Year: Jurickson Profar - Profar was bafflingly ineligible for IBC despite clearly being ready by the end of the season, after soaring to the top of prospect lists with a .281/.368/.452, 14 HR season in AA. The former 3rd round pick may win a spot in the starting lineup in 2013.
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Wilmer Font, Yordano Ventura, C.J. Edwards - The trio of fireballers posted similar seasons. Font returned from a UCL tear with a line of 98.1 IP, 67 H, 11 HR, 44 BB, 138 K and a major league cameo. Ventura reached AA with a 109.1 IP, 92 H, 8 HR, 42 BB, 130 K line across three levels. Edwards flashed onto the scene at two short season levels, posting a line of 67 IP, 32 H, 0 HR, 25 BB, 85 K and a sterling 1.48 ERA.

Re: 2009, 2013, 2023 WS season capsules / Yearly award winners
2023 Team Award Winners:
Player of the Year: Yordan Alvarez - Shohei Ohtani will focus on hitting in 2024, so this may be a tighter race. This season, though, Alvarez dominated. He played second fiddle as a power hitter to late season acquisition Cody Bellinger in the playoffs, but Alvarez is a top three hitter in baseball.
Pitcher of the Year: Justin Steele - Steele's growth into an elite starting pitcher is complete. He edges out Ohtani and Grayson Rodriguez thanks to a complete season and more success keeping the ball in the park.
Minor League Player of the Year: Jackson Chourio - Chourio didn't dominate, but his performance in AA as a 19-year-old was still eye-catching. Chourio will look to push Bellinger to first base and beat Carlos Correa, Kyle Manzardo, Leody Taveras and Johan Rojas out of a starting spot.
Minor League Pitcher of the Year: Jacob Misiorowski - He didn't look like he belonged in affiliated ballseven months earlier but Misiorowski lit up the lower levels and reached Double-A in his first season out of junior college. He appears headed for the bullpen and a lot of arm stress, but could be exhilarating for however long that lasts.
