Tigers Block

Post by Guardians »

Having an unfortunate and disappointing (on several levels) postseason experience, the Tigers are now in the offseason. We are ready for offseason trading to begin.

On the block for 2018/19:

Freddie Freeman: Another year, another elite season for Freeman. He just turned 29, so he's just entering his prime. This year, he hit a stout .309/.388/.505 with 23 HR 98 RBI 93 R 10 SB. 18.7 K% vs. 10.7 BB%.

Shin-Soo Choo: The guy just keeps hitting and taking walks. An All-Star season in 2018, Choo slashed .264/.377/.434 with 21 HR 62 RBI 83 R and 6 SB. Texas used him well at the top of the order. Could be a solid #2 hitter to get on base and drive in some runs.

Jhoulys Chacin: Another guy who has been consistently solid the last few years. He's improved from 1.7 fwar in 2016 to 2.4 in 2017 to 2.6 in 2018. He has improved on his K rate and lowered his BB rate since his 4-win 2013 season in Colorado. He was a quiet 15-8 with Milwaukee this year with a 3.50 ERA. He would make for a solid #3 starter and will be useful if I keep him, but I'd move him under the right circumstances.

Kevin Pillar: If you want consistency, look no further. He's an easy 2-win player who will get you elite CF defense. Also just 29, he had 15 HR and 13 SB in 2018, so he contributes with the bat on top of running down everything in the outfield.

Bullpen: As with my relief pitchers, they are inconsistent. I've got a group of talented arms who had varying success in 2018. Wade Davis led the NL with 43 saves. Andrew Miller was off and on the DL. Justin Wilson, Brett Cecil, Chris Devenski, Greg Holland, etc. were up and down. I would deal a couple arms.

Others available upon request.

Needs:

LF upgrade. Don't need an all star, but a useful hitter with some glove works. Would take an all star, to be clear.

3B or C upgrade. There are only so many catching options, so this seems unlikely. 3B might have more options, but I also think Shaw will be fine.

Young SP. I'll never turn down discussing young starting pitching. Would like to add either a good sim arm for 2018 or a good arm that's close.

Look on the bright side...at least Thor isn't a risk to blow out his arm on any given pitch.

Me having no pitchers healthy is your best shot at finishing within 20 games of first.

Still looking for a LF upgrade. No longer looking for pitching, catching or 3b. Picks, prospects also of interest.

Available:

Freddie Freeman: Another year, another elite season for Freeman. He just turned 29, so he's just entering his prime. This year, he hit a stout .309/.388/.505 with 23 HR 98 RBI 93 R 10 SB. 18.7 K% vs. 10.7 BB%.

Yangervis Solarte: ZiPS: .254/.306/.414 15 HR 64 RBI 1 SB 4.5 RC/27. Plays 4 positions. Adds some utility and versatility (including switch hitting) to a bench. Solid depth piece.

Adding Jhoulys Chacin to the mix. He's coming off back to back 2+ win seasons in Milwaukee after being rescued from Colorado. For those looking for a solid #3/4 innings eater, he's your guy.

I also have a good problem in that I have quite a few good relievers. I have plenty to deal. Projections found here:

Happy almost Opening Day. I'm looking to flip a starting pitcher (ie: Jhoulys Chacin 2 win projection, Hunter Wood, 1+ win-ish projection) for a backup OF with decent defense and/or possibly a late inning reliever. Let me know what's out there.
