The IBC Boston Red Sox have dealt aging shortstop Miguel Tejada for 26 yr old catcher Chris Snyder and a third round draft pick.
"Snyder brings us some impressive defensive skills" said GM and Manager Bren Dillon. "He's got a gun for an arm throwing out almost 36% of all base stealers, made one error all season and showed impressive range. He had more defensive win shares than any catcher in baseball other than Johjima. We're thrilled to have him."
The catch, of course, is that Snyder struggles mightily against right handed pitching, a point Dillon concedes, but he isn't concerned. "We think that Snyder's defense make up for his offensive struggles from the right side. His issues there are primarily with his batting average, his Isolated OBP and Isolated SLG% are still strong. At 26, he still has the potential to improve some. For now, he may sit against some of the toughest righties, but for the most part he's going to play every day and when he faces lefties... Look Out!"
Most importantly for Boston though, this was a move about filling a need from a position of strength.
Chris Snyder... Welcome to Boston!
