I thank you for not taking Quantrill. I had zeroed in on him after pick 16. If you went Quantrill I'm not sure where I was going. It was probably between Whitley and Erceg.Rangers wrote:I really struggled over Quantrill vs Morejon. Everyone seems to think that Quantrill looked great. Both Perryman and JB have made both my picks in the first round pretty easy.. I really like Erceg and Morejon here and would have struggled a lot more than I did with the pick had they been available.
The top of the round was the same. If Maitan or Senzel was there, it would have slowed me down quite a bit.

I guess it was too optimistic to think that Erceg would get to me at 30, he was plan A and B so I'd better start learning about this draft

In most recent drafts, I have had a singular target. In 2014, it was Bradley Zimmer. In 2012, it was Corey Seager. This year, that wasn't the case, yet I felt very fortunate to have the picks I did in the end of the first round. Most people have been pretty bearish on this draft and while I agree there's not as much high-end talent as some drafts, I like a lot of the names in this section of the draft.
Pick one was a debate between Lowe, Nolan Jones and Bobby Dalbec. Dalbec rose to the top due to him being a Sox, but the swing/miss and likely position change threw me off. I debated last night and this morning over Lowe and Jones. Both with similar size, both likely 3B, both lefty with plus power. Ultimately, scouts think Lowe is the better athlete and he was almost drafted as a SP, which is either good because he has a fallback or bad because he has a fallback. I would have been pleased with Jones here too.
Pick two was Lazarito all the way. It's a crazy gamble, but all picks are. The only bad thing I've read is that his agent got death threats. I'm not sure what that says about him as a player. He's a freak and could be an absolute beast. Tons of risk, but tons of upside.
Pick three was more a drafting of the Cardinals' ability to develop arms. Hudson has four pitches that are all very good, but was a thrower until his senior year of college. Everything I've read is he should at some point have a chance to start, but could move quickly as a RP if the Cards have a need. I'm hopeful they work on his mechanics and get him to a place where he can start because I think all the pitches will play up. Also considered Wentz and Jones here.

I'd heard they were working on transitioning Lowe to CF at instructs.Tigers wrote: I debated last night and this morning over Lowe and Jones. I've read he's athletic enough for either. Plus power cf with speed will play, too. With a guy who has more experience pitching than fielding, position changes are always possible.RedSox wrote:I'd heard they were working on transitioning Lowe to CF at instructs.Tigers wrote: I debated last night and this morning over Lowe and Jones. I liked him a lot. I was also hoping he fell, but I guess he was never going to make it to me haha.DBacks wrote:Was it a decent pick? Yeah I was trying to trade up the last couple days before the draft so I could get him. Last time you did this you took Michael Aubrey and I got Nick Markakis and that worked out okayDBacks wrote:Was it a decent pick? So Thompson went...then Wentz...then Muller and finally Gowdy. So I ran out of SPs that I liked and went with the guy that should be the closer of the future in Chicago...he has a powerful arm, so hopefully it doesn't fall off and I will be happy.

Definitely a nice arm, I had my eye on him for my upcoming pick.Angels wrote:So Thompson went...then Wentz...then Muller and finally Gowdy. Has anyone done a league study on each team's average draft class age over a year, 3yr average, 5yr average. Would be funny to see the distribution.

How I would characterize the swings I'm taking in this draft:
