Definitely. I think they'd take a deal like that if they were also getting another lesser player with Santana though. Lester had a pretty impressive postseason so his stock is back up to where people are remembering that he was once maybe the top LH SP prospect in the minors. The Twins have so many arms in the minors, I'm sure they'd part with some lower tier SP prospect and/or a AAAA guy who might be a useful bat like Garrett Jones.Angels wrote:Im sure theyd rather spend the money on Santana then A-Rod.

That's probably true. They still have a team that can compete in the division, especially with Liriano coming back at some point.Dodgers wrote:I think there's no way the Twins do that deal before somewhere close to the deadline. Throwing up the white flag on Santana, especially this early in the postseason would cost the Twins big time.
Me too, it's fun to be the Yankees. Plus Buchholz is a laptop thief. More importantly, best case scenario for the Red Sox is that one of those guys turns into Santana, while for the Twins the deal is great not just because of Santana's impending free agency but because of the depth it would provide to their rotation. Silva is a free agent, Bonser and Baker have been inconsistent, and Garza/Slowey are unproven. Next year's team with Santana has a great chance of being a Spahn and Sain then pray for rain team, only they'll need to protect Liriano's arm as he returns from injury. If you add Buccholz and Lester to the rest of the group the odds are good they can find at least 4 guys who will be serviceable major league starters long term, that's much more valuable than one year of Santana on a team that would be the early favorite for third in their division.
are the reds a darkhorse candidate here? krivsky is a former twin assistantt GM.. reds hired a big name manager sending the message they intend to compete. payroll is supposedly going to be upped significantly.. the have the prospects. bruce, votto, cueto & bailey.. stubbs even.. griffey off the books next year. milton gone this year. the twins/krivsky connection is an interesting twist. with johan/harang/arroyo they'd be really tough.
I'd offer up cueto, stubbs, & parts. freel maybe.

I don't think the Twins would listen to anything from the Reds unless Bruce or Bailey (or both) were involved. No team is likely to get away with anything less than their best/2nd best youngster/prospect as part of any deal Santana. Red Sox would have to include Buchholz, Yankees would have to include Joba or Hughes, etc.
