E-mail System Changes

Post by Royals »

Firstly, we're going to start requiring usage of the official ibcleague.com emails for all GM's. This is for a variety of reasons, including simplicity of use. Many GM's have multiple email addresses on record and it gets confusing and emails get missed, sometimes important ones.

If you don't want to use the gmail interface, that's fine, you can set it up to forward to another email address and if you're not sure how to do this, I will help or even do it for you.

Secondly, we're going to slightly change the format. When new GM's join, they're going to get a realname@ibcleague.com email address (i.e. brendillon@ibcleague.com) which will also be associated with a team 'nickname'. In other words, you can still email redsox@ibcleague.com and it will get to me even if my email has changed to brendillon@ibcleague.com.

This change will also apply to the GM's who are moving. i.e. JP's email will become johnpaulstarkey@ibcleague.com with the nickname pirates@ibcleague.com

If you're not a new GM or not moving, then you can keep your current team@ibcleague.com and will get yourname@ibcleague.com as a nickname. However, if you are someone who doesn't currently use the gmail interface and just has your email forwarded, you should switch.
If you do use the ibcleague.com interface and want to switch, you can, however, you would lose any emails you currently have in your account. If you don't consider this a problem, that's great, you can switch if you choose. If not, you don't have to switch.

I'll do whatever stops all the spam I get in my spam box.

Do I loose my saved emails if I switch my real name and team name emails around?

I'll do whatever benefits the league the most, just give me heads up if I need to save some emails to my C:/

Yes, but you don't have to switch if you don't want to since you're not moving or anything.
If you do choose to switch, just let us know when you're ready and we'll make the change.

Since I'm switching to Florida, I wouldn't mind having marlins@ibcleague.com instead of my current ibcorioles@gmail.com. If that's a problem since it's already being used, I'd do dvacek@ibcleague.com or something like that.

Leave me as-is for now. I don't see any advantages to switching.

Thanks though.

By full name, it's your first and last names mashed together. johnpaulstarkey and danvacek (not jpstarkey and dvacek). That way you can look in the memberlist and easily find someone's email address.

Additionally, Bren didn't mention that it is possible to backup emails and possible reupload them. I'm looking into it, but if losing emails was the deciding factor on whether or not to switch, then let me know that and I'll look into it a lot faster.

I'd prefer to stay with athletics@ibcleague.com, though I'd probably switch if I ever had the inclination to move.
