There is a point to this story at the end, dont worry.
So I found out yesterday at a work happy hour that at my new job the guy who sits right behind me was actually a scout for 3 years before coming to this company. He was the East Coast scout for the Texas Rangers before family issues caused him to leave baseball (for now). We sat and talked prospects for quite a while, from the best players he ever scouted (he got to see Strasburg in one of his college starts) to guys the Rangers drafted when he was there (Purke, Scheppers, Erlin in 2009, Skole, Olt, Buckel in 2010). He hasnt scouted in over a year, but still follows it and still gets some of the MLB scouting literature. He was happy to find someone who knew these prospects that havent even sniffed the majors yet.
Anyways, I was telling him about the league, how it's run, etc. The of course I was lamenting about Feliz getting TJ, and he said that in the long run he thinks he'll still be a dominant ace and the organization was higher on him than anyone else they had on the team. Also, they look on TJ, while a huge negative due to the loss of a year, as a usually positive thing as it allows the pitcher to have a stronger ligament in his elbow than he probably has had in years.
I guess it means though that I might have another rebuilding year ahead of me.
