A few GMs have expressed concerns to me over Kelly's latest round of trades, including one deal that was somehow vetoed while the other two passed (and to me, it was the least egregious of the three).
We've booted GMs for sucking before recently (Gendell, Dave Taylor come to mind), and in my opinion, we were justified doing so. Kelly is now in his fifth year, and we've given him more slack than Dave or Dan and he makes the same mistakes over and over...even while being publicly ridiculed.
I understand wanting to go for it and I for the most part encourage GMs to try to win, I mean, that's the point, right? But he could have picked up similar talent on the waiver wire for the Rendon deal. Or he could have waited more than 2 hours to deal Rendon, too. It's just frustrating because I thought he was turning a corner building talent, and then poof, Rios, Soriano, Z, Capps.
Not sure if others on ExCo feel the same way, but a couple GMs have expressed frustration to me, including Jag, who brought him into the league.

I'm conflicted. Kelly is clearly one of our weakest, if not our weakest, GM. However, he does have a window for this season, so I can't hold it against him for going for it. Making such a terrible deal in giving up Rendon is really the issue. Kelly's done nothing to distinguish himself in the 5 years he's been here, heck 1/4 of the time I still think Craig Korol is the GM there. If y'all want to get rid of him, I won't filibuster for him to stay or anything, but if we do go that route, we need to make sure we have a sure fire, good replacement lined up, cause we're out of guys to bring back

What's defined as a proven replacement? I don't know if, for any vacancy, that we need somebody that's proven. I'd rather have somebody with a high value acumen that hasn't been in a league before than, say, somebody who has been moderately successful in four sim leagues.
I bring this up again because he has a deal at TRC trading away AJ Cole and Anthony Meo for Scutaro and Julio Morban.

Yeah, I'm willing to move on at this point. He's posted time and again about wanting SP but has no interest in Colby Lewis, yet he'll move AJ Cole for Scutaro. I don't think we need a proven replacement, we just need to do our homework. We're out of guys to bring back aside from Rich, we can find a newbie if we take the time. The one thing we shouldn't do is rush to fill the spot if we remove Kelly. I can caretake the roster if y'all want until we get a guy, cause lets face it I'm winning 50 games this year, not much work to do on taking care of my team.

No to sound like a grouch, but it feels like each person on exco has to have this sort of personal "wtf?" moment with this guy before everyone wakes up. I guess we'll see how long that takes. Kelly has arguably the worst track record of anyone who's been in the league over the past few years, including the couple of guys we've booted.Cardinals wrote:Yeah, I'm willing to move on at this point. The hits keep coming from Kelly. He has given up his draft already (only his 4th & 5th left), and has next to nothing to show for it. Two thirds for Rolen, who is hitting .220/.283/.370 in MLB and .227/.278/.378 in IBC at age 37. By my count he has 5-6 remotely useful players left on his roster. Farm is completely drained.
You guys keep talking about who we're going to bring in, well, it's getting harder and harder to feel like we're giving that person a team they could do anything with for years and years.
