RIP.

Levon was the southern soul of The Band. Great drummer, great vocalist. Just a great musician. I was really hoping to get out to that barn in upstate NY he had where he hosted shows and other musicians (like Springsteen, for example) popped in occasionally for the session. Sadly, it'll never happen. Gone to the great gig in the sky at 71.

Sad. I've not listened to a lot of Levon but "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Up on Cripple Creek" are 2 of my favorites. Loved his acting work too, The Right Stuff, Shooter, Coal Miner's Daughter, which is my favorite movie of all time. In fact when Loretta Lynn saw Levon in makeup, he looked so much like her father that she fainted

I've prob said this before somewhere, but if you haven't seen "The Last Waltz," Scorcese's docu on the last Band concert, definitely check it out. Lots of Levon, though the best part is definitely when Clapton makes the crowd lose their minds and everyone briefly forgets its the Band's last show. Levon gets up from his drums to high-five Clapton at the end. Great stuff.
