Kenny Williams gangbanged by two large, brightly-colored birds. Rasmus is gonna rake in Toronto and make them the winner (even if they already have 6,423 young OF who can hit). Also not a stretch to think Mark Rzasceppew#!@&#%!?!ewinski and Edwin Jackson will dip into the same juvenation juicebox as previous Cardinal has-beens and never was's. That's my guess on this one, anyway.

I'm not a fan of the deal. JP will tell you Edwin Jackson is worth 3 WAR this year, I will tell you he's still Edwin Jackson. Dotel's a million years old, Scrabble has some upside. Oh, and Corey Patterson too? Well knock me over with a feather!

I agree that the Cards end can be criticized, but it has enough upside given their track record w/ pitching projects that it can't be totally slammed. Clearly there was some kind of issue w/ Rasmus and LaRussa, or just Rasmus, or something. I'm a big believer in the "change of scenery," especially when the new scenery is the more intense AL East and happy confines of the Rogers CentRE (Canadian for "Center")

Oh I have no doubt Rasmus will explode now. Rasmus didn't listen to our coaches, always went to his dad for hitting help, refused to play winter ball and was kind of a brat. LaRussa is notorious for being hard on younger players. It wasn't a good match. Plus Rasmus is super sensitive apparently. Jay is solid and plays better defense. The return is what I'm disappointed in. Mine and JP's hope is that Jackson pitches his way to being a Type A free agent

Winter ball? Seriously? I don't follow the Cards but I do check the box scores quite a bit and often wondered why Rasmus would hit 7th, 5th, 2nd with seemingly no rhyme or reason to it. Rasmus always hit LHP in the minors and over the last two years he's hit .270/.349/.461 and .256/.374/.451 against lefties, yet he often got the platoon treatment. Guys like the consistency of knowing where they're hitting day in and day out. I don't think Rasmus knew where he would be hitting or even if he was going to be in the line-up until he got to the park each day. That's can be tough on vets and young players. The part I don't get is if you're going to use defense as a reason to move Rasmus, then why did they ship out Ryan and bring in Theriot? I'd think a team that relies on GB pitchers as much as STL would want an airtight IF defense and after watching Ryan last week, he's a frickin' wizard with the glove. Anyway, I also think he's going to put up big numbers in Toronto.

Ryan got dealt because he was late all the time last year apparently, also he clashed with LaRussa a lot. He had a lot of mental lapses, stupid mistakes on the basepaths, ect. Believe me, nobody wants Theriot. I'd be fine with it if he was the primary utility guy that started once or twice a week, but he's finally losing playing time to Descalso. Theriot's cost us a couple games this year because of his defense, I've never seen someone that bad in the field. I hold my breath on routine ground balls now
