I'm grateful that we have a disc to play off of and everything, but paying for ZiPS is tough for me to swallow. Obviously when push comes to shove, we'll use it since there's no other option, but the fact that Diamond Mind is going to make money off of this is a joke to me. A lot of ZiPS' defensive ratings are complete mysteries and pulled out of his ass - and to Dan's credit somewhat, it's a huge, huge project for one person to take on. Which was fine and everything - when it was free. There will not be a free version of the ZiPS Projections in the form of a DMB database this year. The 2011 ZiPS Projections file will be available from the DMB web store, but the price hasn't been decided yet.
Just felt the need to bitch about something. Here's hoping Baseball Prospectus comes up big and someway, somehow gets us a PECOTA disc. I'd pay for that.
