Every Thursday, B.A. posts the weekly Minor League Transactions: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?cat=7
While running the IYFBL, I don't have the time to police the IBC, but I can tell you that many teams have not been 'farming' their Minor League DL'd players this year. And we as a league have missed several situations where teams should have been 'penalized'.
Just for example (don't quote me on these, as I did not check IBC teams transaction dates) it appears that in the last week alone, these players might have played while DL'd in the Minors:
Scott Cousins - Atl
Kasey Kiker - Atl
Logan Morrison - Atl
Danny Dorn - Chi.a
Anthony Swarzak - Cle
Tyson Gillies - Det
Ryan Strieby - Hou
Fernando Martinez - L.A.n
Daniel McCutchen - L.A.n
Mark Johnson - L.A.n
Michael Taylor - Mil
Jared Burton - Mil
Scott Lewis - Min
Yusmeiro Petit - St.L
Daryl Thompson - S.D.
Jordan Brown - Sea

Petit has been off the DL all of May. I'm not sure listing him here is entirely appropriate. Players on the MiLB DL should be farmed. Given that it's the weekend already, I see no reason not to allow the players to play through the weekend and be farmed for the upcoming week rather than going on a farming spree with Saturday and Sundays games left to go.

Why is it not appropriate to list Petit here? He was activated 5/11 - which just showed up on last weeks MiLB transactions - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/pro ... #more-8808, yet he has been pitching in the IBC since 4/9.
BTW, as I said, "don't quote me", this was just an example of "some" names that were 'farmed' in the IYFBL. Please don't go by what I listed, as it should be done independently. In fact, I'm sure I missed others from just this week.

Why? Because he's not currently on the disabled list. It's May 28, not May 11. If nobody caught it, then nobody caught it. Obviously, Aaron wasn't aware that he was on the DL but nobody else was either so I'm not sure why he should be facing a penalty if it's something that came and went without anybody noticing. The same goes for any other player that played on the minor league DL but went by unnoticed.
If you don't want to be quoted, you probably shouldn't call out 12 of the 29 GMs in the league.

So what is the time limit on that? How long is too long to call out a DL violation? Is there a rule on that? Because if not we should come up with one real fast, because that's some bullshit right there. We've had guys come forward for several seasons now and report their own DL violations. Would they have done that if they had known they could shut up and just get away with it? A noticed violation by anyone should be counted. I'm not saying we go back and try to find every violation ever from every season, but we're talking about the same month here. May 11th to May 28th. That's really too long?

I don't think combing through the minor league DL for the past two months and retroactively disabling or penalizing GM's is a sound idea. I'm pretty sure that Aaron didn't know that Petit was on the disabled list, nor did anybody else clearly until Jagger posted this list. I don't think anybody who played somebody inadvertently on the MILB was thinking "I'm really pulling a fast one here." Two plus weeks after the fact? I think that's a bit long myself to penalize somebody, yes.
It's unfortunate that not everybody has stayed on top of the minor league DL, but that's something everybody should have been on top of. Especially in Aaron's case with yourself and me playing against him. Hopefully if this list is posted every week from here on out, people will be more vigilant with the Minor league DL, but I'm not really in favor of imposing penalties on players who have been and come off the DL already.

And if we could have a volunteer to post this list weekly, a simple cut and paste, that would be awesome as well. Maybe Jag since you already seem to 'do it' for the IYFBL you could be so kind as to 'copy' and 'paste' it here? We're going to 'need' you, or somebody, to go ahead and post that same list here. That would be great.

Okay. So what's the rule? When is it officially okay to get away with it? If I said nothing to you about Jason Hammel, you wouldn't have noticed, especially considering he was already off the DL when we talked about the fact that he had pitched. He meets the same criteria you just described for Petit. He was already off the DL just like Petit when someone, myself, noticed the error. I have to suffer a pentalty, why doesn't Aaron?
There's nothing in the rules that says there's some kind of statue of limitations with DL injuries. If that's really what you want, I guess you and the ExCo can go ahead and make it a rule, but you should do that. Because not everybody is playing by the same rules apparently.
I'm assuming based on your logic for there being no punishment against your friend for violating the same rule I did, that I can now activate Jason Hammel.

First off, Hammel pitched while being on the DL against me. You brought it to my attention that you thought they were going to activate him mid-week, but they hadn't. We don't allow midweek activations. Even assuming we did, his game was postponed when we had played H2H and he wasn't activated. So he wasn't off the DL when we talked about it after the fact. I'm going to go ahead and assume that I'd have seen that on Saturday night or Sunday morning the weekend of our series that Hammel had been activated. No, there's no current statue of limitations, but while the series is in progress in the MLB and over two weeks after the fact are pretty different time frames.
Further, Hammel was on the MLB DL, not the MILB DL. There's not as much information readily available on the MiLB DL as there is for the MLB. The milb player pages, especially at the beginning of the season, aren't always updated with the DL or assignment that they're on.
If you'd notice as well, it's not just Aaron that I'm saying get a break, which you're acting like it is. If you'd really like, I can comb through the entire MiLB DL list tomorrow or Monday at some point and list everybody that wouldn't be retroactively penalized for something everybody missed. If everybody in the league thinks its a good idea to go ahead and penalize players who played on the milb DL while hurt retroactively, then that's a route we can go if everybody would like to. I'd be willing to be we'd be adding at least one to maybe half the league, and maybe adding on top of the two you have already this year.

Well that's not what I suggested, at all, and I'm willing to bet that's not what you really want either, so I don't know what the point of that is...Pirates wrote: If everybody in the league thinks its a good idea to go ahead and penalize players who played on the milb DL while hurt retroactively, then that's a route we can go if everybody would like to. Hammel was on the DL when he pitched. He would have been off it when you noticed it. Petit was on the DL when he pitched. He was off it when somebody noticed it. Since Hammel was noticed on the same day, and Petit 2 weeks after the fact, I can appreciate that there's a difference. But that's my point. How much of a difference is okay? When do you just get away with it?
So, I'll get back to the question yet again - What's the rule? Since we both know there isn't one, are you and the ExCo going to make one? I don't like ambiguity. I, as much as anyone, appreciate the work you do for the league, but it seems a little Bren-like when you just come on here and say how you feel about something and then that's the way it's supposed to be. I'm not for it.
There's six of you guys. This needs a ruling. It's important. It's not an issue anyone saw coming, obviously, so there was nothing you could have done before, but you guys could actually do something now instead of just sending the defacto-commish out here to just rule based on your initial opinion.
If a guy goes two days off the DL without anyone noticing, does that player avoid punishment? One day? Four? A week? It should be figured out.

Once again with Hammel and Petit, you ignore the fact that Hammel was on the MLB DL and Petit the MiLB DL. If you don't think there's another difference there, I don't know what to tell you.
What am I supposed to do in threads like this? Not give my opinion or rationale and then have people bitch that nobody is talking to them about whatever issue? Like you said, there's six people on ExCo. Do you want us to create a discussion and come to an agreement on a rule within 24 hours, on Memorial Day weekend no less? Also, nobody else has chipped in here with their opinion either so it's tough to get a pulse on what everybody in the league deems appropriate.
If you'd like my Bren-like opinion, I find it far, far less egregious to miss a guy on the minor league DL than to basically give a game away entirely by starting a catcher at SP, bringing in an outfielder for relief, then bringing in a real pitcher and then bringing in a short stop for the 9th- with a lead.

There's definitely a difference between guys playing who were on the MiLB DL versus MLB. For one, the minimum lengths of the two DL's are different (7 days for MiLB I believe) which makes players more prone to hit the DL. It's also easier to find out who is on the MLB DL versus MiLB, it's available in far fewer places (BA's list goes Wednesday to Wednesday, making it not terribly useful for us). You're also going to have less impact for guys from MiLB than from MLB. For instance Darryl thompson apparently went on the DL. I dont think anyone would say i exactly 'got away' with anything by having Thompson pitch, nor with the vast majority of other players on that list.
Well, I didn't start Paulino to lose the game or give it away, I did it to win the game, which worked. So fuck you. And let's not pretend that you know my reasoning or motivation for anything, because you clearly don't. You also have pitched with position players and have had your SPs throw ridiculous amounts of pitches when you knew the game was out of reach and wanted to save your bullpen, so you can stop off your pedestal now.Pirates wrote: If you'd like my Bren-like opinion, I find it far, far less egregious to miss a guy on the minor league DL than to basically give a game away entirely by starting a catcher at SP, bringing in an outfielder for relief, then bringing in a real pitcher and then bringing in a short stop for the 9th- with a lead.
The MiLB DL is harder to check, I get that, but it's still a DL and everyone on it was still injured. Still violations. Less egregious? Sure. If you wanna say that the MiLB just shouldn't count, that's fine, too, but again it kind of seems like there should be a rule in place.
I'm not sure how hard it is for you guys to say, "Okay we're going to work on it." It's a situation that pretty clearly could use a rule, and it seems like you don't want to to admit that because you're pissed off that I dared to argue with you.
I'm perfectly aware that its Memorial Day weekend, and I'm a reasonable guy, no matter how hard you might try to twist my words around to make it seem like I'm not. You're allowed to give your opinion, but even now a dozen posts later you still talk as if you have no intention of discussing that opinion with the rest of the ExCo and making some kind of ruling.
How hard is that do exactly? "We're working on it." "We're gonna talk about it." "We'll vote on it and let the league know."
This is your job and some of you wanted the job so damn bad you managed to avoid even running for re-election like you were supposed to. The least you guys can do when a member of the league asks for a ruling is take it into consideration instead of bitching at me for daring to question you.
But that's fine, just argue for the sake of argument's sake and don't bother to do anything. I know there's many other important things you guys have to do for the league....hahaha. But just wait and see. One day a player everybody actually cares about will be on the MiLB and he'll play in the IBC and we'll be in this stupid situation again because you'd rather fight with me than just say you'll work on the issue with the ExCo.

JP has a database out twice a week on time, boxes up every night, and some other stuff that we're not even going to bother talking about.Pirates wrote: But that's fine, just argue for the sake of argument's sake and don't bother to do anything. If you have a problem with what the DL thing, maybe you can post the minor league DL every week. Then you're taking care of the problem and people won't miss injuries that are hard to track. It's something we're going to discuss in the ExCo but with it being Memorial Day weekend, it may be Tuesday before people start chiming in. But to sit here and say JP, and for that matter the ExCo, does nothing for the league when you haven't done anything for the league in years is very annoying.

So you brought in Cliff Pennington to close out a game with the intention of winning? And starting Ronnie Paulino because you knew he would pitch well? Give me a break. You did it because you love to whine about ZiPS to compensate for the fact that your team is mediocre and to prove a point that ZiPS stinks. You didn't care about winning the game. Had you cared about winning it, you would have tried to win it with actual pitchers rather than position players. There's no strategical advantage to pitching a batter. I've brought in position players late in games to save my bullpen when the game was out of hand, you are absolutely correct. The fact that you can't see the difference between that and starting a catcher at pitcher and having a SS close out a relatively close game is pretty pathetic. Try to rationalize it all you want, but there's absolutely no justification for it. The fact that you won that game is just blind luck.Cubs wrote:Well, I didn't start Paulino to lose the game or give it away, I did it to win the game, which worked. So fuck you. Do I need to say that ExCo is discussing something? Would you like a status update at all times as to what we're discussing and when? If it's to your liking, there are two threads open in ExCo right now, one discussing the legality of starting a catcher at pitcher and closing out the game with a position player in a close contest being one of them, and the other one the issues of this thread. Again, you've made your opinion clear and Bren has chimed in as well. Has anybody else in the league? No. So you want us to bang out a rule quickly that most of the league could very well disagree with? Awesome.
Further, I said over the winter when you posted about ExCo elections that we would hold them if anybody wished to run for it. Otherwise we'd do them after the year. Did anybody volunteer to run for it? Nope. So I'm not really sure what your point is there. You've completely changed your argument at this point too.
Weren't you originally complaining that Aaron got away with pitching Petit while he was on the MiLB DL and your issue was that I don't think it's just to penalize him 2 weeks after he already came off of it before anybody noticed? Now you're concerned about players playing on the MiLB DL. Which is it? If you're concerned about players playing on the MILB DL, why don't you volunteer to copy and paste the DL list from Baseball America? If somebody in the league had done that, then this wouldn't be an issue whatsoever. One day a player everybody cares about will be on the MiLB and he'll play in the IBC

Hahahaha.
Wow. I can't believe you dude. Unreal. Quite a guy you are. First, yes, I did pitch Pennington with the intention of winning. If I didn't want to win I never would have changed pitchers. I would have just pitched Ronny Paulino the whole game. But when he was no longer effective, I switched. My pitching staff sucks and they're never successful the way they're projected, yet everytime I use position players with no projections when I'm playing around with DMB, it works. They pitch better. I gave myself the best chance to win, and it worked. You can try to twist it and pretend like you know everything, but you don't.
And does my team being shitty have anything to do with Zips sucking? GMs on all different levels of success seem to pretty upset with the quality. But again, way to make an argument about something that's its not. Pathetic little moron.
And yeah, when I ask the ExCo about something, I don't think its to much to be let know that you're talking about it or taking it under consideration. Is that offensive to your pathetic little ego? I have had the pleasure of hearing how much your sad little existence revolves around your baseball league, so perhaps I should have been more sensitive when requesting you take some action. That's my bad.
I'm complaining that there's no rule. That's been pretty clear. Since I got the information I wanted though, I can let it go now. Most of the things you suggested that I wanted or said or did in the above post aren't true, and you know that, but you simply like to twist words around.
"Further, I said over the winter when you posted about ExCo elections that we would hold them if anybody wished to run for it. Otherwise we'd do them after the year. Actually, no I haven't. I'd love for you to point that out. That's what was decided at the beginning of the season and I was as fine with that as anyone. Still am. But that's still what happened. Nice try though.
I named Petit because he's the one that you guys were talking about before. Aaron was singled out when talking to Jag, not me, way before I ever got into the conversation. In fact, my first words on this whole subject were
"So what is the time limit on that? How long is too long to call out a DL violation? Is there a rule on that?"
It's pretty clear. Aaron was already being discussed as kind of the example for this whole problem. That was established before I entered the discussion.
And Aaron? What the fuck man? "Gabe, let me ask you this, what exactly is it that you do for the league?" Um, nothing. Because it's not my job.
"But to sit here and say JP, and for that matter the ExCo, does nothing for the league when you haven't done anything for the league in years is very annoying."
First, I never said they don't do anything for the league. EVER. Not once. But you and JP sure love twisting my words around don't you? Didn't you tell me that you and JP do everything? In fact, those were pretty much you're exact words. So, of course I believed you. So I made a joke about it. You can complain to me about how none of them do anything but I cant make a joke about it? Alright man, whatever you say.

Did anybody volunteer to run for it? Nope. So I'm not really sure what your point is there. You've completely changed your argument at this point too."
