2009 September/Playoff injuries

Post by Cardinals »

Here's this years thread for 2009 and the end of the season injuries. Always gets a bit tricky and we try to be conservative with who we decide to shut down due to injury. That's the key thing of course, the injury and the severity of it. A player getting shut down due to innings or just rest will be allowed to play etc., but a player going under the knife is likely not going to be able to play. It's obviously a case by case thing but we'll try to be as consistent as possible in order to ensure fairness.

I'll go ahead and throw the first two big names out there that should be discussed.

Alfonso Soriano
Grady Sizemore

I'm not going to make judgement one way or another since I don't have a say in it, however both have been playing up until this point and appear to only be going under the knife early (sizemores case) in order to get a head start on the healing process for next season. If either's team was in the playoff race they'd probably both still be playing.

Carlos Pena broke two fingers today and its out for the year. Likewise in the IBC. Still the injury rules apply re: timing, so Pena will be eligible for this week.

Do I get Jorge de la Rosa back since he was a last-minute decision for the LDS?
