Orioles Available in August

Post by Twins »

Since I'm probably going to be out of town at the trade deadline, I though it would be nice to get a head start on all the festivities and post another trade block. Basically everyone is available, some are more expensive, and others less. I am looking for players that can help my team next season or at the least in 2011. I'm not looking for Single A and Rookie Ball prospects that are four years away. Here are some highlights:

Garrett Atkins, 3B: .301/.360/.489 projection. Rated defensively at 1B and 3B (Fr at both). He has been up and down this season in real life, but mostly down. He does have a reputation of having better second halves than first halves. A good August could make him a useful player next season, but he'll be more than helpful for a team in need of offense during a playoff push this season.

Jason Bartlett, SS: He is probably a guy that I'm going to end up keeping, since SS hitting .337/.385/.521 don't grow on trees, but my SS depth with Jed Lowrie allows me the luxury of shopping him around to see if there are any serious takers. Even if this season's offensive outburst is a fluke, he's not going to come cheap.

D.J. Carrasco, RP: Not exactly a big name, but he has been excellent for me in the sim, completely shutting down RH hitters. Also comes with a nifty 66% gb rate. He has been pretty good in real life this season, but a recent outing against the Yankees in which he gave up five runs in four IP has hurt his numbers.

Jason Frasor, RP: Another one like Bartlett that I am probably keeping because he has been so good in real life, where he has a 2.09 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, and a 35/10 K/BB ratio in 38.2 IP. He also has a 3.79 ERA and 59 K to 57 IP for a projection.

Francisco Liriano, SP: Comes with a fully-equipped projection that includes a 3.76 ERA, 123/49 K/BB in 139 IP, and a nice .249/.317/.390 batting line against. He's been mostly mediocre this season, sometimes looking good, sometimes not so good, but his sim will undeniably help some team looking for another SP to strengthen their rotation.

Tony Pena: Why wait for Tony Pena the former SS to develop into a RP when there already is an effective Tony Pena who is a RP and is readily available on the trade market? Pena has been outstanding for me in the sim this season, and has a good projection to make sure he'll keep it up when traded. He has pretty bland numbers in Chicago since his real life trade, but he has posted an 8/2 K/BB in 10 IP, and also has a 3.73 FIP hiding behind his uglier 5.40 ERA.

Desmond Jennings, CF: Feel free to try to pry him from my death clutch. In all seriousness, I am definitely considering shopping Jennings in the offseason, so I thought there would be no harm in shopping him now to see what his market value would be. Just know that I am valuing him as a Top 10-15 prospect.

Again, just about everyone on the team is up for grabs, although the younger guys would be tougher to get since I am in the midst of the always-dreaded rebuilding project, which is also why I'm asking for guys who can help in the next year or two. I'm looking to actually move forward in this rebuild, rather than merely stand still.
