Crossroads for the 2009 Giants
Crossroads for the 2009 Giants
With Peavy out a possible 3 months, I need to decide now what route to take. Looking for some deals that will either net me a SP with decent projection to fill in for Peavy while he's out or go whole hog and start looking at next year (who knows when Kazmir will be back, too...)
Basically, the best offers I can get over the weekend will determine which direction I go in. So, first list is some guys I could deal if I keep going:
Belisario
Chavez
Flores
Jepsen
Jones
OFlaherty
Prior
Rios
Scutaro
Tallet
All prospects (Tazawa, Weeks, etc)
And, if I pack it in:
Adams
Bedard
Bonderman
Capuano
Crain
Howry
Kazmir
Kearns
Markakis
Rolen
Rowand
Saltalamacchia
Shell
Tavarez
Young
All prospects (it is me after all)
So make an offer from one group or the other. If the first group, looking for an SP or hitting/defense upgrades. If the second, looking for young MLB talent for next year.

Ok, just saw Bonderman is "hoping" to be back by September. That translates to "Prior, make room for me at the beach." This, plus Peavy, plus Kazmir, plus having to depend on a back end of the rotation of Willis, Tavarez, and the younger Papelbon has pushed me to pack it in so to speak. Consider the second list above the one that is in play.
Send me your offers. No one is untouchable.
Also, in terms of talent for next year, I don't want prospects that will just be making the sim next year. Looking for guys playing in the majors now who should end up with decent projections.

For the 2nd year in a row, I've had 4/5 of my rotation, and my closer on the DL.
Thank you Kelvim, Lohse, Hill & Maine....and Mr. Putz too.
If I still had Hudson, that would make me a perfect 5 for 5.

It's official (finally). LeBlanc starts on Friday and Silva is likely to start Saturday. Chris Young to DL.Giants wrote:Go Young! If Chris Young also hits the DL (though now looking like he'll avoid it), my entire pitching staff will be on the DL: Peavy, Bedard, Kazmir, Bonderman, Capuano, Prior...
Also, if you counted on Prior for anything but a wasted roster space that's your own fault. Ditto Bondo and Bedard to a lesser extent.

Nice. Giants officially going to a 4 man rotation:
Dontrelle Willis
Julian Tavarez
Jeremy Papelbon
Brian Bullington
Simply awesome. Does anyone else sense further anxiety problems coming up that send Willis back on the DL?
And, no, I had no intention of depending on Prior, but I NEVER thought it would get to the point where I would need him.

Awesome.
Tigers placed LHP Dontrelle Willis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 15, with an anxiety disorder.
Willis was 1-4 with a 7.49 ERA. He walked eight and gave up six earned runs against the Pirates on Sunday. Tigers manager Jim Leyland announced on Tuesday that Willis would not make his next scheduled start.

Update: Still looking to deal off a few more pieces that might help this year and beyond. Looking for upgrades at #4 and 5 in my rotation (over Wolf/Bonderman/Marshall/Capuano), CF (over Rowand/Jones), and RP. And open to some prospects or draft picks.
Guys still on the block:
Bonderman
Byrdak
Capuano
Crain
Howry
Johjima
Jones
Kearns
Kendall
Marshall
