I've got too many 2B right now. Looking for SS with DeJesus not a lock to remain at SS, 3B despite Carter playing some 3B in the CAL, and C with Sabean slotting Sandoval at 1B already and apparently the #2 pick not being high enough to land me Posey.
Ray Durham - .289/.380/.432; VsRHP .303/.385/.452
Kaz Matsui - .293/.354/.427; VsRHP .294/.358/.434; EX Range.
Travis Denker - AAA - .282/.373/.468; MLB - 37 AB -.248/.333/.486; 23 YO.
Scott Campbell - AA - .302/.398/.427; VsRHP - .333/.426/.466; 24 YO, 2008 Futures game selection, 2008 EAS Mid season All-Star, 2008 EAS Post season All-Star
Luis Valbuena - AA & AAA - .303/.382/.431; MLB - 49AB - .245/.315/.347; 22 YO, 2005 BA NOR #6 Prospect, 2008 BA SOU #20 Prospect.
After the Mariners pushed him to Double-A last year as a 21-year-old, Valbuena returned to West Tenn and showed improvement in all facets of the game. He finished the year playing regularly for Seattle.
Valbuena has plus bat speed and handles the bat well, making frequent contact. He has a sound approach at the plate and had nearly as many walks (28 ) as strikeouts (32) in the SL. He has pull power, though he's more of a line-drive hitter with pop to the gaps.
Managers rated Valbuena the best defensive second baseman in the league. While his speed is just average, he has good range to both sides and turns double plays well. He plays above his tools because of his overall feel for the game.
Badler: He's got good bat speed and he'll drive the ball enough that he'll be able to make pitchers pay when they attack him in the zone. That's pretty valuable from a second baseman.
Kahrl: Valbuena's looking like an outstanding prospect, hitting .303/.382/.431 between Double- and Triple-A this year in his age-22 season, swiping 18 bases in 26 attempts, and walking in a little more than 11 percent of his PAs. There's certainly nothing wrong with having an alternative to the frustrating Jose Lopez at the keystone,
Jose Vallejo - A+ & AA - .292/.345/.415; 22 YO, 2008 CAL Mid season All-Star.
Will Lingo: Vallejo is a plus runner and is a potential impact player, and one manager said he could be a Jose Reyes type. Of course, the same manager said he's not fundamentally sound, so he still needs some polish. He needs to walk more and won't show as much power as he did in the Cal League going forward.
