Tough call. Not pitching the last 19 games of September is pretty much a DL trip. Problem is they didn't "shut him down for the season", he just wasn't ready to come back by the end.
I'm going to err on the side of saying that he shouldn't be available--rather than guessing when guys would have come back, it's better to say whether they would have gone out. For example, in Lewis' case we were ruling whether or not he would have gone out for the season had they been in the race, as opposed to whether or not he would have come back from an injury had they been in the race.
