Am I nuts? What the hell has happened with announcers ever giving an opinion? Analysts have literally stopped analyzing - unless you consider "Manny Ramirez knows how to play the Green Monster and plays shallow at Fenway" insight the 7,000,000th time someone has said it "analysis."
Last night the Angels batted Chone Figgins (.368 obp, not bad), Casey Kotchman (.328 obp), and Maicer Izturis (.323 obp) as their 1-3 - and apparently they've done this before. Phillips or Hershiser said that Scocsisaasda does this to have "three good at-bats before Vladimir Guerrero."
So he can hit a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning? It's a fucking insane decision by a normally sane manager, and all Phillips and Hershiser can say is, "It's a unique strategy, seems to have worked for the so far."
For chrissakes say it's stupid! Figgins should be hitting first and Kendrick should be hitting second, and Guerrero should be hitting third. THAT would be a tough way for a pitcher to start a game.
If someone can give me a lucid reason why Maicer Izturis should be batting third for any professional baseball team (I'll include the Dominican League, the GCL, and the Rookie league) I would LOVE to hear it...

He has pictures of Mike Scioscia in a very compromising position with a Vietnamese hooker?Royals wrote:If someone can give me a lucid reason why Maicer Izturis should be batting third for any professional baseball team (I'll include the Dominican League, the GCL, and the Rookie league) I would LOVE to hear it...

Totally agree.
It's not as bad as Izturis, but Erick Aybar has hit third as well.
Somehow Scioscia has reached a status where most baseball people just assume everything he does is smart. The guy LIVES off of great pitching and does his best to abuse his resilient relievers, but just has some special arms. He has a very questionable offensive approach and really should be managing in the NL, where wasting outs is considered an art.
Scioscia is the most overrated guy in baseball.

I think the media fauns over it because there's nothing sabermetric about it, and if anyone can plug in numbers to determine whether a manager is smart or stupid then we won't need the media to tell us what to think (or in the case of Skip Bayless the exact opposite of what to think) about baseball anymore.

With today's trade this became a moot issue as far as the Angels are concerned ...Royals wrote:Last night the Angels batted Chone Figgins (.368 obp, not bad), Casey Kotchman (.328 obp), and Maicer Izturis (.323 obp) as their 1-3 - and apparently they've done this before.
