Anyone looking for a steady SS?

Post by Padres »

Yuniesky Betancourt, the 26 year old SS for the real life Mariners, is being actively shopped. For the M's this season Betancourt is hitting .264/.276/.373 (he has only recently had a temporary slump going 3 for 16 since the All Star which has been attributed to discomfort leading to "some serious work done on his teeth Monday morning", according to one report) after hitting .289 the prior two seasons and he is hitting .279/300/.396 for his career. Betancourt has shown himself to be a decent hitter with some gap power. His most valuable asset, however, is his glove. He is fast becoming one of the best fielders in the game by using his mix of excellent range, quickness, soft hands, hand-eye coordination, and his strong, accurate throwing arm.

In the IBC he is currently hitting .273/.293/.376 with 20 doubles, 3 triples, 5 Home Runs and 7 SBs for the IBC Mets. In real life his great glove keeps him in the lineup every day and he is durable as demonstrated by the 157 games played in 2006 and the 155 played in 2008. [Or maybe that is because Willie Bloomquist is his real life back up ...]
