Can't remember where you posted this Ropers, but you appear to have a hand in the day-to-day baseball ops for the M's, cuz...

I don't get why they're keeping Vidro and cutting Wilkerson, Vidro can't play in the field anymore. Also Rotoworld makes an interesting point:
It's just another example of how poorly the Mariners are being run. Clement and Balentien only needed to stay in the minors for another week to guarantee that they wouldn't be eligible for free agency until after 2013. Wilkerson gets the heave ho despite going 3-for-3 with a walk last night. Obviously, the team made the decision before then, as both Clement and Balentien were held out of Tacoma's lineup last night. While Wilkerson is disappearing, Jose Vidro figures to stick as a backup. Still, his fantasy value disappaears. Vidro to Clement at DH appears to be a clear upgrade. The streaky Balentien isn't as much of a lock to be an asset as the right fielder.
They really couldn't have waited a week? I was pretty confident in my vote for Sabean as the worst GM in the league over at bucsdugout, but Bavasi is something else altogether.

As they note in Hamlin's quote....its just another stupid move by the M's, they should have either made the move to start the season with Clement and Wlad on the major league roster, or they should have waited the extra week so they keep control of the players for an extra season before free agency........

Another week of games isn't going to make or break this team's season, but not they's lost an extra season of control over two solid young players.

Bavasi is by far the worst GM in the majors.

I wouldn't say by far, remember that Sabean was ready to trade Lincecum for Alex Rios...

True, but at least, possibly through no competence of his own, he didn't pull the trigger. Hell, Bavasi passed on Lincecum in the draft for Morrow and then chose to make Morrow a set-up man in the bullpen. If Bavasi had been in Sabean's shoes he probably would have traded Lincecum for Reed Johnson.

I was going to say 126 million for Barry Zito but then I remembered that Bavasi was in on that bidding too. That being said, I'll take 3 years for Dave Roberts, Omar Vizquel's current contract (with an easily vesting option), giving away draft picks to sign Michael Tucker, the Matt Morris deal and the current shortstop situation. At least you guys have a Wlad and a Clement to bring up.

Yeah, we're lucky in Seattle that Sabean had more money to work with that offseason otherwise the M's would be paying $121 million for a long man in the bullpen, instead of the Gigantes.

I guess we'll have to call it a push. Rather hard to give one or the other the nod of greater incompetence given their respective track records.
