King Felix...

Post by Yankees »

The most impressive pitch last night was - far and away - the curveball to JD Drew. I was sitting on my couch and my knees buckled and I started heading back to the dugout.

This kid has a real opportunity to be one of the greats...you just don't find human beings with this type of stuff...ever...

Nice to see Dice-K being mortal too...I think he needs to start establishing his fastball more. He appears to be more concerned with trying to strike everyone out, then pitching to get outs. He throws absolute gas with his fastball, establish the plate with that and then work the off-speed stuff. There is no pitcher on the planet, other then a knuckleballer, who should throw 50% fastballs. That's just dumb...

Right forum now :)

His numbers are just ridiculous, if his third start is just as good as the last two, they'll start talking Cy. I haven't caught BBTN lately, but I imagine they are all over his balls.

START? Half the prospect hounds have been talking CY for 2+ years now... he's an immensely talented kid, that said, i half hope he falls on his butt just to spite the fellatious prospecters.

Holy fuck you are an evil man Bren. You hope a kid - and by all accounts a great kid - has his arm fall off just so you can laugh in the face of prospect hounds.

Really?!?!?! You're better then that...

Thus, the use of the word 'spite'.
I didn't say i hope his arm falls of, i said i hope he falls on his butt. Ala Joel Pinerio rather than Prior or Ankiel. Though given the Mariners track record with young pitchers and his reportedly extremely poor mechanics, I wouldn't bet against the latter.

Either way you are rooting for a very talented young pitcher to fail. That's pretty absurd...

1. The hype is annoying beyond words.
2. It's in my own best interest, I see nothing absurd about it.

This is when this league and fans just go WAY too far. You care because the Red Sox have to play him? Or that your SIM Red Sox have to play him? For fuck's sake, why not just enjoy him?

Did you watch him pitch against the Red Sox? It was fucking awesome.

I was watching the Yankees play Oakland this weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed watching Harden pitch.

If you can't enjoy great baseball, then you aren't a baseball fan.

Why should I cheer for him? I have no reason to cheer for him specifically. He's not a player for a team i care about, not on my Sim team, I've never heard anything about him that made me particularly care about him, no touching story, nothing personal, nothing to make me feel like I have some reason to root for him. He's remarkably talented, so what? How many remarkable talents are there in MLB? Gimme a guy like Santana who folks aren't fellating without him ever doing a damn thing or Halladay throwing his 10 inning CG.
So i've got no reason to root for him, i'm sick of hearing about him, there are plenty of other talents and my IBC team will do better if he fails. yeah, I give a shit about Felix.

A RedSox Fan complaining about some other team's player getting too much "publicity" or "hype".

That's like a Yankee fan complaining about some other team spending too much money on a player.

Petty and spiteful is a pretty accurate assessment.

Oh come on, I thought the WWJDD bracelets and fake beards in 2004 were completely appropriate, tasteful, and in keeping with how other teams market their players :D.

In all seriousness, one thing I have to say about Red Sox fans is that it is WEAK to go to every fucking yard when the Yankees are in town just to boo them. All it does is make you look pathetic and make the rest of us Red Sox fans look bad. Some dumbass in a Red Sox jersey started chants and was picking fights with Yankee fans in the bleachers where I was sitting for Haren/Igawa on Friday night and it was so embarrassing that even A's fans were booing the guy until he was finally escorted from the Coliseum. Bren, I'm going to explain this for the last time - if you are a true baseball fan you should appreciate truly great baseball.

If you are not a true baseball fan, then go knock yourself out with your King Felix voodoo dolls that you work every night in the hopes to derail the career of a sensational young talent.

If you can't get excited to watch Omar Vizquel play short, Jose Reyes hit a triple, Jeter score from first on a single, or guys like Oswalt and Harden and King Felix deal - then you don't need to turn in your baseball fan card - you need to turn in your sports fan card.

Bren, if this is the case, and you need some hobbies - the girls in my office say the Bachelor is quite intriguing this season.

Don't get carried away here Z, I was at the Yanks @ Cleveland once, Omar totally booted a ball, long hop right off his glove and over his head and they called it a hit. Fucking home scorers.

No way, never happened. Much as I love Omar Vizquel I am sick and tired of the fact that no one ever has anything negative to say about him.

wow, this.. this is hard to take... I don't fit Z's definition of a true baseball fan.. it's gonna take some time to get over this. Does anyone have some chocolate and a copy of the bachelor on DVD?

Z, get over yourself.

As for your definition of a 'true' baseball fan... it should get over itself as well. if you want to talk about "true baseball' you wouldn't be talking about the spoiled rich pricks you see playing in major league parks. True baseball is a game, not a job. baseball is something you PLAY because it's FUN, not something you DO because it's the biggest paycheck you can get. Felix Hernandez isn't true baseball. The beergutted guys playing thursday nights at the local park are true baseball.

As for Felix's injury, that's about as surprising as Mark Prior suffering a setback.

I think Arthur Rhodes has a few bad things to say about Little O.

All I'm saying is that Krukow, Kuiper, and the good folks on the Giants flagship KNBR have said more bad things about Barry Bonds than they have about Omar Vizquel.

It was intended to be a tongue-in-cheek comment. Arthur and Omar got into a bit of a spat when Little O complained to the ump one night that Rhodes diamond in his ear was too bright, the light reflecting off of it was distracting him at the plate.

I don't think they send Christmas Cards to each other anymore.

Missed that story. I know Jose Mesa hates him too and always throws at him when they face eachother. It's pretty funny.
