We should all forget the roster issue for now and focus on the absolute joke of a DL system we have going on right now. A guy activated on Sunday has to miss a whole extra week of SIM time because he was activated on Sunday and not Saturday.
What does this mean? This means a starting pitcher who missed two weeks but was activated at 12:01 on Sunday instead of 11:59 on Saturday misses an additional TWO starts. This means an everyday hitter misses 6-7 games and 25-30 ABs.
This is a joke. We have two databases now. If a guy gets activated on Sunday-Wednesday, he should be able to be activated for the Thursday dbase. Making guys who miss 2 weeks in the MLB miss 3 weeks in the IBC makes no sense at all. Let's get on this thing and fix it.
forget roster problems

Just FWIW, you may have talked to JP about this, but I know that he has identified it, has a suggested solution, and is working in exco on it. The counterpoint that has been mentioned, as I understand it, is that it opens the door wider for GMs sneaking players into the MP before they should be able to.
I think the assumption has always been that, while everyone can understand Gabe's frustration, IBC GM's also benefit on the other end, where a player may not be put on the DL until Sunday morning at 12:15 AM and the IBC gets the added benefit of playing the player in the SIM for an extra week before he has to put him on the DL.
There has always been a trade off with pros and cons for each way.

that's a fair point, ropers. I guess it just seems to me now that we have 2 dbases we can more accurately mirror when a guy is supposed to be out, instead of going on a week later and coming off a week later, it could be a max of three days difference. that way we decrese the times that guys are playing in ibc series that they aren't playing in the mlb.
it also helps in times like this at the beginning of the season where guys who have been on since day one are being forced to miss 3 weeks rather than 2

A possible easy solution.
I know at one point some time ago, GM's were allowed to adjust their rosters mid-week if they wanted to send in updated roster files. I think this even included activating DL'd players that had come off the DL after Saturday night, IF they had already served at least the minimum two weeks on the DL.
Given that we are now doing database updates, twice a week, I don't see why we couldn't go back to allowing GM's to activate their DL'd players on Thursday's roster update, IF they have already served a minimum of two weeks on the DL.
Just a thought.

This is similar to what JP has suggested. I think it's a good idea.Mariners wrote:Cubs wrote:that's a fair point, ropers.
