2026 Trade Deadline

MLB announced that this year’s trade deadline will be on Monday, August 3 at 6 p.m. ET.

This announcement ensures that the trade deadline will not fall on a weekend. Last year’s deadline was on July 31, but it has changed dates in recent years. If anything, teams will have an extra couple of days to decide their direction.

What about the best of both worlds here? If Labor Day (the Monday) is the deadline, there's no simming that day anyway. We could make that the deadline, but have the trades processed starting for those Monday games. JP might have feedback on this since he does the work, but why couldn't you have all the players traded to start simming that Monday even though you acquired them that day? Maybe it causes a day delay of simming, but we'll be on daily simming for months at that point. One day isn't an issue.

This is a really good idea.

If we hold true to this, it would be:
Sat, Aug 29 in 2026 at 11:59 PM ET.
Sat, Aug 28, 2027 at 11:59 PM ET.
Wed, Aug 30, 2028 at 11:59 PM ET.

I think this is all close enough to the 31st and makes sense. There's no lag in transaction cutoff date.
