Re: 2026 IBC Padres

Post by Padres »

Presuming there are no major trades this pre-season, I expect the 2026 IBC Padres will open with this line-up:

2B - Sam 24-Antonacci* .246/.354/.339, 32 SB, 96 OPS+ (-1 @ 2B) [BA CWS #9, MLB CWS #, BP CWS #6]
SS - Jeremy Pena .269/.323/.413, 16 HR, 16 SB, 103 OPS+ (3 @ SS)
1B - Blaine Crim .268/.336/.443, 18 HR, 106 OPS+ (1 @ 1B)
3B - Colson Montgomery* .216/.292/.410, 23 HR, 94 OPS+ (2 @ SS)
DH - Miguel Vargas .235/325/.400, 16 HR, 102 OPS+ (-7 @ 3B)
.C - Jesus Rodriguez .276/.337/.367, 12 SB, 103 OPS+ (-4 @ C) [BA SFG #18, BP SFG #13]
RF - Alex Call .243/.353/.402, 11 HR, 112 OPS+ (6 @ RF)
LF - Phillip Glasser* .267/.333/.352, 15 SB, 96 OPS+ (4 @ LF) [BA WAS #27]
CF - Denzel Clarke .231/.307/.377, 13 SB, 89 OPS+ (7 @ CF)

Obviously much younger then 2025 ...Likely going to activate Antonacci off the draftee roster and have him leadoff (at least against RHP as I expect a partial platoon with Meidroth though Antonacci is a better defender). This year's squad will be better defensively and quicker with much less power but much better OBP then the Padres that began the 2025 IBC season.

The "bench" is going to provide some late game defensive replacements as well as occasionally spell a regular. Vargas will replace Crim at 1B and Sosa appears to be the 27th man right now ...

.C - Dominic Keegan .236/.300/.382, 10 HR, 90 OPS+ (2 @ C) [BA TBR #18]
2B/SS - Chase Meidroth .243/.339/.426, 12 SB, 89 OPS+ (-4 @ 2B)
3B - Kyle Karros .259/.331/.368, 87 OPS+ (7 @ 3B)
LF/CF/RF - Jacob Melton .225/.285/.364, 10 HR, 20 SB 81 OPS+ (2 @ CF) [BA TBR #3, FG TBR # , MLB TBR #, BP TBR # ]
LF/CF/RF - Grant McCray* .231/.296/.371, 13 HR, 20 SB, 91 OPS+ (-1 @ CF)

All of the Padres Starting Pitchers are young:

SP - Cristian Mena 3.83, 85/32 (89.3), 109 ERA+ [BA ARI #11, FG ARI #10, MLB ARI #, BP ARI #15]
... Shane Smith 3.98 ERA, 140/53 K/BB (144.7), 103 ERA+
... Troy Melton 4.19, 91/32 (105.3), 102 ERA+ [BA DET #, FG DET #, MLB DET #, BP DET #]
... Slade Cecconi 4.38, 105/31 (125.3) 97 ERA+
... AJ Blubaugh 4.45, 105/49 (115.3), 94 ERA+ [BA HOU #4, FG HOU #, MLB # ]

There will definitely be some injuries and these three are the next guys up:

... Kumar Rocker 4.21, 66/22 (76.7) 94 ERA+
... Davis Martin 4.44, 97/41 (123.7), 92 ERA+
... Thomas Harrington 4.54, 79/32 (103.0), 92 ERA+ [BA PIT #18]

Just gonna' have to be patient this season while these guys develop ...

Finally onto the pen:

CL - Grant Taylor 3.58, 60/18 (55.3), 114 ERA+

RHSU - Justin Sterner 3.94, 61/22 (59.3), 104 ERA+
... Matt Pushard 4.17, 49/21 (54.0), 100 ERA+ [BA STL #29]

LHSU - Tanner Banks* 3.92, 57/16 (62.0), 113 ERA+
... ... Brennan Bernardino* 4.40, 43/23 (47.0), 105 ERA+

LR - Mike Vasil 4.23, 86/43 (106.3), 97 ERA+

MU - Cory Laweryson 4.26, 45/16 (50.7) 99 ERA+

Not real strong but better then the pen the Padres had at the end of last season. There will likely be some injuries in which case these three are the next guys up:

... Sean Guenther* 4.11, 33/13 (46.0), 104 ERA+
... Wandy Peralta* 4.01, 50/26 (58.3), 102 ERA+
... Mike Vasil 4.23, 86/43 (106.3), 97 ERA+

With Ty joining the NL West it will be a tough division. Right now I won't be surprised if the Padres finish on the bottom of it ...
