Question

The place to come to talk about all things IBC related. Or not IBC related. Just keep it reasonably respectful.

Question

Post by RedSox »

I see the player I created yesterday has been deleted.

If the player I created:

Felix -0- Doubront P 10/23/1987

is the same player that is on the Detroit roster as:

Felix -0- Doubrant P 12/31/1987,

why hasn't the player information been corrected? It makes it impossible to crosscheck for player identity if the name is spelled incorrectly and the wrong date of birth is given.

There is another player I want to create that Jared assured me is on someone's roster but the first name is different, the last name is spelled wrong, the position is different, and the date of birth is incorrect. Who can I check the player's identity with to determine if he is who I think he is or should I just create him and find him deleted in the morning? Also, shouldn't each owner be responsible for policing their roster?

Thanks,
P.

Valid points.

Important to note that birthdates are not always accurate with foreign players, and can easily be something different on multiple sources.

I suggest the teams webpage as a good source. Most minor league teams have their own webpage, and list the Bat/Throw, Position and DOB at the very least.

The problem is, we can't edit players. Shawn, Bren or Jim has to. I've asked in the past for Doubront's name to be changed, but there's nothing I can actually do about it once he's initially in the OOPSS.

I do the best I can to update players, I don't think anyone has the time to check their roster over and over to make sure that DOBs are correct. Position is basically a guideline when they are created, many guys play multiple positions. If I get an email or PM about an incorrect player it always gets fixed, if I don't there's nothing I can do.

If anything, create the guy and ask for forgiveness later, but if it looks too good to be true it usually is.

This kind of thing happens a lot with these Latin kids who some of us sign with only scraps of info on. Like, I remember Neftali Feliz, for a little while BA had him listed as Neftali Perez. The entire last name was wrong. Just something we have to deal with the best we can, and while everyone knew that Doubrant was Doubront, I should have stayed on you guys about it. I just know it's a pain in the ass to constantly get emails on name/DOB corrections on players.
